Does it make any sense that a girl would date shallow men so she doesn’t have to deal with guys on a emotional level??? I have a friend that does this. Her dad had an affair and then her parent divorced when she was 12. He never took an interest in her life. I am not sure if this is the reason why she does this.

Kids of a parent or parents who abandon them unfortunately have trouble forming close relationships. Later in life it becomes a 'comfort zone' to belong in a similar relationship, not matter how much that person really just wants to feel loved and respected. Your friend never had a male role model from her own father and is reliving her childhood, as an adult. I am wondering if she could talk to or write to her father, even just to express how she feels? You are a very observant friend.

"Shallow" is a very subjective word, so it's a question not easily answered. I seriously doubt that any woman sets out to "date shallow men", but I do date in a somewhat random fashion, not wishing to get too involved. But "shallow"? No. I date interesting professional men but do it with the understanding it must be without strings - unless the totally unheard of was to happen - like they were to somehow become "adored" - almost impossible but it does keep them on their toes.

It's also very annoying for friends to psychoanalyze each other. No one likes to be told why they do something based upon some little snippet of information about their past. We are delightfully complicated creatures and I doubt very much that your friend's behavior could be traced to one simple event. It may not even BE a "behavior" but just something YOU find noticible.

That could be the reason she does this. Can u imagine? Sex is one thing and u can get over the emotional part of it. But when u get emotionally involved with someone, and they end up breaking up with u, or worse...cheating on u, it's harder ro handle. So it's just easier to date someone who's shallow and only wants one thing. U just have to make sur that's what u want, and to keep ur emoitons in check. Jaded girls do this too. Sometimes it only takes one or two rotten apples to ruin a whole bunch.

Yes, unfortunately, that can happen. People (men or women) who are afraid of commitment often choose dating partners who are incapable of a real relationship. It sounds like your friend's past has made her very afraid of getting into a real relationship, because she's seen that sometimes, it can lead to getting hurt.

She could also be pursuing shallow men because she's totally shallow herself - without knowing her, it's impossible to say.

It's important that your friend learns how to recognize the good men that she can trust. Unfortunately, there's no way for you to teach her that. She's going to have to learn it the hard way.

Life sucks sometimes.

i dont think u have to be messed up to date single men. we all do it. it's the shallow ones who have more experienced at dating as they date so many women. and the more experienced they are, the best chat up lines they can provide us with.

rubbish i know. an most girls know it's rubbish.. but most girls also are incapable of doing what they know is a good idea. we're stupid..

The best way to meet a chick is to walk up next to her, cut a big, juicy, silent but deadly fart and then blame it on her. Works every time ;)
