Like if you cry everyday or just in general.

Absolutely!

Your appetite can be dulled tremendously. You might move about a lot wringing your hands and worrying, which will up your metabolism. And if you are crying, you are not eating.

If one cries every day, one has to look at certain things...

Is the person simply frustrated with accepting certain things about life? This can be changed with cognitive therapy, which is simply changing your outlook on life and avoiding negative thoughts and reinforcing good things in life.

Is the crying a release? Crying often makes people feel better afterwards. But every day would seem like too much.

Some folks have emotions "just under the surface" (like me), and it can be very easy to suddenly start crying for apparently no reason. Maybe a song or an odor or a passing thought sets it off.

If someone is crying all the time, they need to seek some help from others or online. An excellent resource (which I'll place in the source section below) is the Befrienders Group online, which has over 30,000 volunteers in 40 countries.

Take care,

People with depression can react differently. I have a friend who eats when she has depressive episodes, so she has gained some weight. I tend to not each much at all when depressed, so I lose some weight. It really depends on the person. Some actually forget to eat when depressed, so they could lose some weight. It really depends on the person.

Many people who are depressed don't feel like eating much and they lose weight. Some people will eat more when depressed and gain weight. Each person reacts differently.
