there is no 1 gun to do it all
but based on your criteria i would get a 44 rem mag with about a 6" barrel as it is long enough to hunt with but is short enough not to get in the way for a survival situation and will work for home defense thou it is not my first choice for this

You didn't say anything about your background. If you are an inexperienced then you might start with a .20 gauge pump action.

Mossberg and Maverick both make inexpensive models. It is almost impossible to find a good hunting shotgun that would effectively double as a home defense gun. For hunting you would want a 22+ inch barrel, for home defense you would want a much shorter barrel.

The type of hunting could also be a factor. I regularly hunt whitetail deer with a Ruger .44 mag pistol that could make a decent home defense weapon. I have taken deer out to about 75 yds.

Talk to your local dealer and explain your needs. They should be able top point you in a good direction.

There is no one gun that would be "great" for >Hunting, Shooting, Self-defense and Survival.

If you're talking about a good firearm to stick in the plane/truck/canoe/etc when in the outback.

A very versatile firearm is the Savage Model 24

If you're talking about an "extreme" survival situation, and if I could only choose one rifle it would be the HK-91.

I have no shotgun or rifle experience. But handguns I would say nothing less than a .357 mag. S&W 460s are used alot for hunting but for fun range time I would say it is to big. .357 can shoot both .357 mag and .38 special so you would enjoy a few hours of range time and use it for defense and hunting. I do not know though anything about hunting with a handgun as I have not done that. I am going off of what I have been told for those who have. Good luck and Happy Shooting.

If I had to pick one gun it would be a shotgun. 12 or 20 your choice. You can hunt everything from small game, Rabbits and birds. With a slug or buckshot. Depending where you live. You can hunt deer, bear and other big game. And for self defense its the best. Because in a stressful situation. You do not have to aim. Just point and shoot. and it should go through the walls of your house and kill your neighbors

There is no one firearm that can do all four. You have to decide what you want a gun for before you buy one. If you want to target shoot, get a .22 (either a rifle or a pistol) because you can buy ammunition cheap. If you want to hunt, buy a rifle (I'd recommend a bolt action rifle in an intermediate caliber if you want to hunt deer like a .270, or if you want to hunt varmints like coyotes, get a .22-250). For self-defense, nothing beats a shotgun. Last, but not least, for survival, a bolt action rifle is your best bet.

It depends on what you are hunting, or target shooting. Do you want a shotgun or a rifle? I prefer a pistol for defense.
Sawed-offs can really do some damage if you can get to it fast enough. Think about what you do most with this gun, maybe you should buy a few different ones.
