If you happen to find a good MAC 10 (which is hard) Its best to use it only for fun and not for defense. Heres why
1.) no matter what anyone says, it will be inaccurate, and thats obviously thats the most important thing for self defense.
2) there are so many better guns out there self-defense wise.
Id get a 12 shotgun over anything else. They will knock any attacker off their feet and the chance of at least one of the pellets hitting the attacker is very good.
For carrying around, a MAC 10 is illegal I believe, but even if it wasn't I would still get a good revolver over a MAC 10 any day. If you can get a good deal on a MAC 10 though get it. They are amazingly fun to shoot and they just look cool too, although I perfer Uzi's

Though MAC-10's and all other submachine guns are designed for spray and pray, I don't totally agree with the folks who damn the MAC-10 as totally in accurate.
Last time I had the chance to play with one, I was able to ring the gongs out to 75 yards with 3-shot bursts.
As a concealed weapon, forget them. They are not much easier to conceal than a legal minimum length shotgun.
If I had one, I MIGHT use it for home defense, but considering the fact that in any shooting fray, the cops are probably going to take your gun for evidence, I'd probably use a handgun instead.
Another reason I'd not really want to have a submachine gun is that I don't want to have to permit the BATF to enter my home and inspect my records and storage facilities any time they desire. We won't even discuss the expense of the weapon, the annoyance of the State and Federal paperwork or the expense of feeding the little buggers. And remember, there is not a civilian legal MAC-10 in the country that is less than 20 years old, and magazines and parts are pretty hard to find.

At extreme close range, on full auto, it's as effective as repeated hits from a .45 semiauto pistol, if the shooter is trained well enough and can control the weapon. most can't, and a full automatic weapon is a poor choice for a civilian self defense weapon, due to the 'excessive force' factor, should you have to actually use it, and end up in court on criminal/civil charges.
The semiauto MACs are for people who are playing games with themselves, and aren't worth the asking price.
I'd go for a Glock in .40 caliber as an alternative to the high price of the MAC-10 and the $200.00 transfer fee you'd have to pay on a full auto, and also, consider the legal restrictions on automatic weapons.

Not at all. Stick with a semi-auto. Springfield Armory XD, Taurus 24/7 or PT1911, Beretta Px4 Storm, Glocks, Ruger, are all great firearms for self defense and range use.

first of all, a micro uzi is better than a mac 10 in every way.If you pulled a micro uzi on an assailant...well I think they would stop.machine pistols don't have the 8 foot effective range they are pictured to have in the movies.think of it this way. in my opinion the best gun for self defense would be a high end SMG like a p90,mp7,or mp5,but most people can't afford that,or legally have access to it,or know how to use it properly, and its very hard to conceal.so its best to stick with the traditional pistol.

depends on the variant and how well you know the sights on it. full auto macs are hard to keep steady. semi auto macs are fairly accurate. the 6 inch barrel is more than most pistols have. the .45 is effective at incapacitating human sized targets. most take 30 round magazines, which can save you a few reloads. the handle is less than comfortable. the weight is more than most pistols.

If you dont know how to shoot a gun and you will only be using it for home defense then it will be fine.
A M-10 smg will spit out about 20 rounds per-second when selected to maximum. This is FAR to much so I suggest seating it to a slower rate of fire, maybe 5 rounds per second.
No they are not accurate at all, just point and spray.

Spray and pray is what the mac styled weapons are good for. Very few people in the civilian world have a real need for a defensive weapon such as the Mac's.

Its a cheaply made gun and not easy to conceal due to its large magazine. I have no idea how accurate it is but I'd guess it not that good.
You are better off with something easier to carry and more dependably made. A high quality 9mm or 40 caliber would be my suggestion.
However if you are into impressing 16 year olds I'd think the Mac would be good for that.

It is OK, accuracy isn't important at the close range in a house. For concealed carry it is kind of a funny shape to holster but for home use I don't see anything wrong with it.
