This may be a dumb question since I'm 13 and all but what does Mormon mean?

I wish everyone would realize that this is a 13 year old asking a question and should not try to complicate the answer or confuse anyone. A mormon is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You may sometimes hear them called LDS instead of Mormons. LDS (Latter-day saint) and mormon are nick names derived from the church's name and from the Book of Mormon that they read. They are Christians, meaning that they follow Jesus Christ and believe that He is the Savior of the world and the Son of God.

There are quite a few people who will post false information, because they don't like Mormons, so here it is straight:

"Mormon" is a nickname given to people who belong to "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints". They sometimes are referred to as LDS as well.

They believe in the Bible and are Christians. They also believe in a book of Scripture that is called "The Book of Mormon" believed to be written by prophets who lived on the American continent hundreds and thousands of years ago.

As I said, they are Christian, and do believe in Christ, although many people who don't like Mormons like to say that they are not Christians.

I'll also note here that there are some small spin-off groups that tend to be very fanatical. They cause some mis-conceptions about what Mormons are and are not. There's a good chance you know some Mormons and don't know it. They tend to blend in with everyone else.

Mormon was a man who lived in the Ancient Americas. He and his son Moroni compiled ancient prophetic writings into what is now known as the Book of Mormon.

Mormon was an ancient prophet who summarized 1000 years of his country's history (much of it was religious history) and made a book. He gave the book to his son, Moroni. Moroni was one of the last righteous men alive of his people, and under the direction of God, he buried the book (plates back then). In about 1824, those plates were taken under the direction of an angel, by Joseph Smith, then a young man of 18 years old.

The Latter-day Saints have been given a false name of Mormons, because of their claim that the Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with some of the ancient American inhabitants.

Just like the non-members, in the time of Jesus Christ and his followers, falsely called the Saints "Christians," so do the non-members today call the Saints a name that Jesus himself does not call them by.

And is it any wonder that today, it is people who call themselves Christians that call the Saints: Mormons? But the Christians of today are not the Saints of today, nor are they anything like the Saints of ancient days. And the Saints are not the "Christians." Indeed, one of the guys here explained that the Mormons are a Christian sect, and there couldn't be anything further from the truth. A sect is a division of something, and the Saints are not a division of anything. The Saints are God's people. Period.

Some Saints consider themselves "Christian," but that kind of Christian is not the same as the corrupted Christians of Christendom by any means, who "believe in the Trinity."

Personally, I think that when a Saint uses the name Christian to describe himself, it is a deception that he is completely oblivious of. For the Saints are not the Christians to Jesus. Jesus never calls his people Christians. Only Saints. In fact, in 1820 Jesus told Joseph Smith, then 14 years old, that the Christians were all corrupt, and that he should join none of those churches.

Jesus commanded Joseph Smith to translate the "plates of Mormon" into English. The translation was first published in 1830, and was titled The Book of Mormon.

Obviously, there is much more to the story. And the last place you should go to learn of it is from Christians, who set themselves up as enemies to the Saints, since their doctrines are so superior to their's. You will never see a Christian take on a Saint over principles of the Gospel. You'll only see the Christian take on a Saint with historical falacies about Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, or the Book of Mormon. Never about principles, though, which would clearly show who has the truth or not.

Mormon is the nick name given to followers of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints. They believe that Christ's Church was corrupted and fell away. So an angel named Moroni delivered golden tablets to a man named Joseph Smith to correct the Bible. They say that Mormon is also an angel that had something to do with the tablets. Many Mormons do not like being called a Mormon due to that is giving the honor and glory to Mormon not Jesus.

A mormon is Generally a good person. They are people from the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This religion is a Christian Religion (although many other people who say they are christians, say that we arn't. The spirit of contention is of the devil anyways). We keep high standards and have the organization and practices of the origianal church when Christ was on earth.

It is a sect of Christianity established by Joseph Smith, who published the BOOK OF MORMON in1830.
They share most beliefs with modern protestant Christianity but they have a lot of ideas of their own( outer darkness, celestial sphere etc)
