Irritability and agitation are symptoms of mania, believe it or not. When it appears at the same time as the depression, it can be symptomatic of a "mixed state", and needs to be addressed by the treating psychiatrist.
In my experience, a mixed state is a thousand times worse than mania or depression alone. A patient doesn't feel comfortable in his/her own skin, operates in a love 'em/ hate 'em fashion, and finds it almost impossible to get along with coworkers and authority figures.
Encourage him to see his psychiatrist for a medication adjustment. He will wonder why he waited so long, once he feels better.

while you're apprehensive approximately your moods you may desire to work out a physician. A prognosis of bipolar disease calls which you would be able to be afflicted by mania (a ruin with reality) or hypomania (bipolar 2)the place you have a critically bigger temper for a minimum of a week alongside with classes of melancholy if it extremely is bipolar 2 and in lots of circumstances no melancholy in any respect in bipolar a million. It does not sound like it extremely is your concern yet basically a physician can help you out with what's incorrect.

As I understand it, bipolar means swings from a "manic" stage (where the person is high energy, doesn't sleep or eat much, yet isn't necessarily 'happy" or upbeat), to periods of being down, where they are fatigued and possibly depressed. So, yes, they can still be considered bipolar.

A person suffering bipolar has periods of highs and lows which obviously they can't control. If you are unhappy all the time, you may suffer from depression. You may also be going through an unhappy period that makes you simply "unhappy" but not necessarily depressed.
Cheer up, tomorrow is a better day.

Sure. Sometimes that's the way BiPolar presents itself. Just because you are Bi polar, doesn't mean you have to have happy times. I have occasional hypo-manic episodes, but hardly EVER have 'Happy times'.
Sounds like some psychotherapy would help you a lot!!
Good Luck
