I would suggest supporting your husband in the career choice that he wants. Money isn't everything.
I had the opportunity to become an OSI (Office of Special Investigations) agent when I was in the military. My husband said no way. After I got out of the military, I applied to the local police department when my husband said, if they will take you, go ahead. Well, out of 800 candidates, I placed #2 (the guy who got #1 was given 1 extra credit point because he was already an officer at another city). When I told my husband that I was accepted, his reaction was worse. "No wife of mine will be a cop!" I wanted to keep my family so I passed on it - although I was heartbroken. The feeling of not being supported by my spouse (plus other items) lead to an unhappy marriage and we eventually divorced. Not becoming an OSI agent or a cop are the only career things I regret in my life.
Help him go with his heart.

around here, a deputy isn't paid all that much and there is only one cop for every 50 sq miles. it's not an easy job at all. i know quite a few of them and they wind up handling tons of clls in a day. i'd stay on as a mechanic. the pay is way better with a lot less hassles
