I have 8 of them. I was told to put triple antibiotic on for 2 days, but then just use regular lotion after that. I don't think you should still be using the A&D ointment. Don't scratch it though! Peeling is normal....tattooos look like crap until they heal. I would wait a couple more weeks and go back to the studio that did it if it needs to be redone.

It's totally normal for the skin to peel after getting a tattoo. That's just how the skin reacts to the abrasion. Just keep doing what you're doing and DON'T pick!!
Mine peeled for about a week, but I stopped using ointment after 3 days, which is what my artist told me to do. It came out looking beautiful. Every artist is going to give you different after care instructions, so just go with what yours suggested.
Enjoy your new tattoo!

It's normal, and yes, it looks bad. My tattoos usually peel in big sheets, it's gross!
But give it a few days, and it will stop. And under that peeling skin, your tattoo will be nice and bright.
DON'T ADD MORE A&D! You are over-moisturing your tattoo, and you could damage it by weakening the scabs and making them come off before they're ready.
Just let it do it's thing. The peeling and itching, while alarming, is totally normal.
Go back to your normal aftercare instructions and STOP ADDING MORE A&D. I have seen so many people screw up their tattoos by doing that.

I have 5 tats, and they all did what you are describing. My biggest tattoo looked like CRAP until it was completely done healing and even weeks after that for it to really look nice on my skin.
Sounds like you are putting too much ointment on it. If you put on too much, it won't peel as quickly as it normally would. I used A&D lotion on my tattoos all through their healing and peeling process. I still put it on to keep my skin healthy and it's been months after my last tat, but it looks healthy and great!
Give it time, and DO NOT PICK. Period.

Peeling is completely normal. Don't pick at it or scratch at it. I think you need to lay off the ointment, but maybe pick up some aloe lotion (not scented!) to help with the healing process.
Give it time. It takes a little while for it all to get back to normal.

A tattoo should be coated liberally with A&D ointment/tattoo goo...my tattoo artist suggested bacatrine. Anyhow you should only be using this ointment for the first two days, after that you should lube your tattoo up with aloe free lotion. it's important to use a lotion that doesn't contain aloe since it has been linked to drawing out the color in your tattoos. You should also keep your tattoo out of the sun until it fully heals. You should never allow the healing tattoo to dry out, constantly reapply lotion to the tattoo to replace your bodies natural moisture/oils.
Everyone doesn't heal the same. I had minor peeling, where as my husband on the other hand peeled like crazy. When I felt the urge to itch the tattoo area, I would dig my nails in around the tattoo site and it could calm my need to itch.
I have 7 tattoos....here's my tattoos, my thigh is still a work in progress when it's done it will extend up the side of my waist and down to my knee.

A tattoo is basically a cut, when cuts heal they itch, scab, then the dead skin peels off. It's just healing, once it's finished peeling it'll look fine as long as you've been following the artists after-care instructions..

You should be just keeping it clean and using a good unscented lotion on it right now. The peeling and itching is normal, but too much goo on it could cause the skin to get mushy and infected. It needs to breathe. It needs to be kept clean. Just treat it like regular skin.

For all of my tattoos I was always told to use A&D ointment for the first 3 days then switch to a non scented lotion. Either do that or just use lotion from the very beginning. Using the ointment too long can clog the pores.
