Most states make it illegal to have anything but minimal factory tint on the lower portion of a windshield. There is an allowance for the upper portion near the top to reduce glare.

It isn't stupid and may save your dad's life or the lives of the people he is driving around.

As others have said. See or not it's the law and one's version of what is safe or not may not be shared by others. Statistics show that those with tint are more likely to be in accidents. Plus you might as well put a sign on the back saying "bust me for speeding".

As an adult he should probably realize that the best thing to do would be to get rid of it. If he gets another one for it the judge might actually order his license suspended until he proves that it is gone. If he gets pulled over the officer will see that he previously had a ticket for it. The vehicle could be towed as "unsafe" and that will cost far more than $100.

Best to get it over with and show up in court with pictures showing that it was removed.

Window tint laws are for two reasons.

Heavily tinted windows make it very difficult to see well at night. This holds especially true for the front windshield.

Very dark tints also make it impossible for an approaching Officer to see what the occupants are doing in the car. While most people like dark tints for the way they look, the fact that it keeps the car's interior cooler, etc; bad guys like it because it makes it easier to ambush an Officer as he walks up to the car.

No. I don't think so. A tented window will not let you see very wel and you might get in a car crash. I guess that's why he pulled you over.

Hope I helped!!

there are limits on tint. know the laws and keep it legal when you are driving or don't drive.. the cop was just doing his job.

The law is there for a reason.
