People in day care are happier if they really like kids (in your case, babies). Kids of all ages can sense when you're not too excited about being with them. It makes them miss their moms & dads all the more. It can be very rewarding and really make you feel good. (Don't wear anyone else's hat and you won't have a problem with head lice.)

p.s. Don't take the job if you don't think you can be happy doing it. But it IS an important job.

Do you have any experience or college training for this job? If you did, you wouldn't have these questions. Working in a daycare is very rewarding. Yes, the pay is not so great, but the rewards are greater - when the child asks to go to daycare on the weekend, when the child runs to you for hugs, when the parents tell you that their child is singing a new song, and so on. This outweighs the negatives. You must also want to make a difference. You are teaching the child and preparing them for preschool. You have a very important job. And yes, you might get everything they get, but if you are diligent with hand washing, cleaning the toys and classroom, you will be fine.

My wife used to. Low pay, little chance for advancement. Unless you really like working with kids and have someone else bringing in a good paycheck, find a different career.
