This is of course in reference to Ephesians 6...
starting with verse 14....14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, = knowing the Word of God, and believing it, is step 1...
with the breastplate of righteousness in place.. = The Lord said that we will not stumble if we walk in the light instead of darkness...no can can truly harm us if we are eager to do good....
15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. = the Word says to not be anxious, but pray and the "peace that surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus...(think of yourself as a soldier so firmly planted that nothing can knock you over)
16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. = this means having faith, like Abraham did, that God will take you to the place He has showed you...a place of righeousness...do not be held down by the 'accuser' who loves to tell you what a failure and sinner you are...look ahead to the future and consider your self credited with it
17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. = helmets are to protect the head obviously..guard your mind with the knowledge of your salvation through Christ....nothing can take that away...and your sword is the word of God, to go on the offensive!
Remember our battle is not against "flesh and blood" (e.g. others)...it is against "the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms"
God Bless!

Although true Christians do not share in fleshly warfare, they are engaged in a battle and are likened to soldiers. (Php 2:25; 2Ti 2:3; Phm 2) A Christian has a wrestling “against the governments [not made up of flesh-and-blood humans], against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places.” (Eph 6:12) Since physical weapons and armor would be of no value in a battle against superhuman spirits, Christians must “take up the complete suit of armor from God.”—Eph 6:13.
Paul advises Christians to have their “loins girded about with truth.” (Eph 6:14) Just as a girdle can provide support and protection for the loins, an unbreakable attachment to divine truth can strengthen a Christian in his determination to remain firm despite trials.
Next, a Christian must put on “the breastplate of righteousness.” (Eph 6:14) A literal breastplate served to protect vital organs, especially the heart. The need of righteousness as a protective breastplate for the figurative heart is especially evident because of the heart’s sinful inclination.—Ge 8:21; Jer 17:9.
Part of the spiritual armor is to have the feet “shod with the equipment of the good news of peace.” (Eph 6:15) The Greek word he·toi·ma·si′a, translated “equipment,” has the basic meaning “readiness.” (See Int; NIV; TEV.) A Christian’s always being equipped and ready to make known the “good news” to others, and doing so despite hardships, can help him to endure faithfully.
A prominent part of the spiritual armor is “the large shield of faith.” Like a large shield covering most of the body, faith in Jehovah God and his ability to fulfill his promises will enable a Christian to “quench all the wicked one’s burning missiles.” (Eph 6:16; compare Ps 91:4.) Faith will help a Christian withstand attacks by wicked spirits, resist temptations to immorality, shun materialistic desires, and not give in to fear, doubt, or excessive grief.—Ge 39:7-12; Heb 11:15; 13:6; Jas 1:6; 1Th 4:13.
As a helmet protects a soldier’s head, so “the helmet of salvation” safeguards the Christian’s mental powers from ungodly influences. (Eph 6:17) Having on “as a helmet the hope of salvation” means looking “intently toward the payment of the reward,” as Moses did.—1Th 5:8; Heb 11:26.
“The sword of the spirit, that is, God’s word” is indispensable to the Christian in warding off false teachings and traditions of men and in teaching the truth and ‘overturning strongly entrenched things.’—Eph 6:17; 2Co 10:4, 5.

Finally, a good question.
We went over this many years ago.
The best way I can describe what to do is this.
You pray on the armor. When you pray it on, you relate to Jesus all the parts and think how that he is the one that represents the parts and thank him for the parts. Did you get that? Something like this,,,,,,,,,
Lord Jesus, I thank you for the full armor of God, I will let the truth be in me no matter what, I know that you are the Way, the Truth and the Life. And I gird myself with your truth.
I thank you that through you I am the righteousness of God.
And I put on your breastplate righteousness.
I thank you for being the living Word of God, and I shod my feet to share the gospel of peace with all that your Holy Spirit leads me to.
And I take up the shield of faith and will not let any dart from the enemy pierce it this day with doubt and unbelief.
And I thank you Jesus for the helmet of salvation, that is wrought in your blood, and will let no man or devil tell me that I am not part of the fellowship of the unashamed.
And I take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, to meditate on what you have said to me and all of humanity.
I thank you Lord Jesus for equipping the saints and we wait for the day when we will stand in your presence.
I love you Lord Jesus, you are my best friend my brother, my Lord and my God.
Well,,,pray in that manner, you choose your own words.
Picture the parts of the armor going on your spirit man as you pray them on. You can say it aloud s that the devil may hear, or to yourself, that does not really matter.
To be the most effective, pray it on in the morning, for you will get beat up during the day. As a soldier, you will get chinks in your armor, so repair it and make it new.
In Jesus name.

Finally a real question... If we study God's word, in prayer we will be well on our way. in sharing our faith with others we gain even more faith. When we practice our faith it gets stronger and we can guard our hearts and minds by avoiding those things that we know that we can't do with God by our side.

11 Put on the complete suit of armor from God that YOU may be able to stand firm against the machinations of the Devil; 12 because we have a wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places. 13 On this account take up the complete suit of armor from God, that YOU may be able to resist in the wicked day and, after YOU have done all things thoroughly, to stand firm.
14 Stand firm, therefore, with YOUR loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and with YOUR feet shod with the equipment of the good news of peace. 16 Above all things, take up the large shield of faith, with which YOU will be able to quench all the wicked one’s burning missiles. 17 Also, accept the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, that is, God’s word, 18 while with every form of prayer and supplication YOU carry on prayer on every occasion in spirit. And to that end keep awake with all constancy and with supplication in behalf of all the holy ones, 19 also for me, that ability to speak may be given me with the opening of my mouth, with freeness of speech to make known the sacred secret of the good news, 20 for which I am acting as an ambassador in chains; that I may speak in connection with it with boldness as I ought to speak.Eph.6:11-20.

Just to understand God is within you. For that fortifiys you in all ways. Love God with all your heart and understand your body is the Temple for which he/she resides in .... in a fraction of what God is. Each of us has a God-spark within, for to realize that and to act on your best, gives you an armour that will protect you.

I pray it on everyday. One way to look at it is when we have God's armor on then we look like God. Also it will lessen the attack on us. If you like, e mail me and I will get deeper on it.
