Certainly any primary care doctor (internist or family practice) should be able to help you. If they are stymied you could see a rheumatologist (a medical specialist in connective tissue diseases like arthritis). The are a variety of kinds of arthritis such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout etc. A simple history and physical examination can go a long way to sorting out what is going on. Simple xrays and blood test may give more specific information.

See your primary physician first, he'll run some tests, blood, he'll be able to tell you how bad and what line of defense you have.
He may put you on a medication for it to see what you can tolerate, some of the meds are pretty strong and have side affects. He then may send you to a doctor well versed in this.

I have osteo-arthritis in the severe degenerative stages. I've had surgery twelve times on my spine, 32 wires and twelve cadaver bones and, twelve of my own hip bones. I also have two cages in my lower spine. I have a ten inch plate in my left hand also.

You need to see either an orthopedic doctor or a rheumatolgist. Your family doctor could look at your joint and touch them and have blood tests done to determine the type of arthritis. He could then either treat you himself or refer you to a specialist. You don't have to suffer, go on to a doctor and get some relief.Good luck to you.

Just see your regular doctor and if he feels it's necessary he will recommend an orthopedic doctor for you. They will take
x-rays and do an M.R.I. Plus he or she will have you move the area affected if possible....( like if it's your knee, they'll have you walk and they'll watch to see how bad it is etc) . ( I will have knee replacement surgery in 3 weeks).
Best of luck to you dear.
