Can I feed my cat fish from the store?

i asked my vet that question also...cause i give my cats shrimp or crab.

My vet's response was ...it is ok, occassionally. But not all of the time. Remember the mercury count in our seafood is much higher than anything they ever get in a can....so it is ok as an occassional treat.

i give my cats the "treat" when i return from going out of town on biz.

Uncooked fish has a lot of bacteria on it and they can go bad very fast, so only do cooked fish, with no salt or pepper. Especially no salt as that would be bad for the cat's kidneys.

Take the bones out too, so the cat doesn't choke on those.

I got a good deal on a 24" long slab of salmon flash frozen, couldn't pass it up at $1.25 a pound!!! It made for a LOT of baked salmon and all the cats got a share of it when I baked the thing up. They loved it.

Yes, you can feed your cat fish from the store.
Be sure to cook the fish & remove any bones.
Whether your cat will like the fish is another question.

youcan feed your cat any meat or fish that you eat. However, to prevent digestive problems you should cook the meator fish if you can. Most processed cat foods are cooked at the factory and your cat is probably , by now, adjusted to cooked ( processed foods) raw or unprocessed foods may upset the cat's stomach if too much is given at first..

I've feed my cat fish before and it worked out fine so I guess so. Hope this helps.

Fish is actually not very good for cats. In the wild their natural diet is birds and rodents. Cats foods containing chicken, lamb, and turkey are closer to their natural diet. Cats rarely fish in the wild.
