I adopted a 1 year old American Pitt Bull and brought him home today. He was growling at my roommates son who is 12,, how do I stop this? Without the dog being afraid of us.

If he's growling at people, you aren't his leader. you should take him on long walks and keep him at you side, not in front of you. Other wise He's leading you. as for the growling, put his leash on, and yank him to the side when he looks at the person he's growling at.

This is not normal behavior! What, if anything, do you know about this dog's history..is there anything that gives you any insight? Can you contact the people you got the dog from? It *might just be a case of the dog settling in, but I'd be concerned enough that I'd keep the dog under close supervision. If this doesn't stop or if the behavior escalates in any way you have only a couple options. You could either take the dog to either a dog behaviorist or a professional trainer to correct the problem OR put the dog down. If the dog is truly aggressive do not re home it. People need to be honest and not emotional in making a decision like this. If a dog is aggressive towards people and cannot be rehabilitated it needs to be put down.

You just got the dog today. I wouldn't make a snap decision, but I wouldn't ignore it either.

Watch the Dog Whisper on National Geographic or go buy his book Cesar's Way. This is Cesar Milan, I use his techniques on my dog and they work great.

Pitbulls are the WORST, most dangerous dogs. Give him to someone who lives in the country where most people will be safe from him.
