My mom won't let me have a cellphone...What are some good reasons why a 13 year old girl should have one?

Ok, didn't think I would ever help a child vs. a parent (because I am the parent), but my son has a cell phone and its great! Good luck and just remember to try to talk to your mom like an adult when trying to persuade her.



You are almost always accessible.

In case of an emergency (flat tire, bad date, and so on), you can call for help. (this would be when your older! lol)

You need a ride
If you're lost or running late, it's easier to call your waiting party from a mobile rather than stopping at a pay phone.

A phone is always at your fingertips, even when you shouldn't be using it.

A mobile provides an easy way to collect phone numbers.
If you need to make plans but don't feel like speaking to someone and can't send an e-mail, you can text a quick message. That said, mind your etiquette--reading a text message while talking to someone else is just plain rude.

In a pinch, it can be used as an alarm clock.


And the # 1 reason....she can always call and check on you, no matter where you are! :)

I can only think of reasons why she shouldn't

1) You're too young to get a job, so your mom and dad will have to pay for it

2) There's a greater chance that you'll lose it or break it

3) There's a good chance that you'll be running around sending all your friends 500 texts and your parents will end up with the $300 phone bill

4) It may distract you from your studies or family life if you're on your phone all day

At your age you shouldn't be out and about so much that you need a cell

Since you cannot come up with any, I can only think that your reasons are less than appropriate.

You friends have them?

You want to be able to be wherever and tell your mother you are somewhere else?

You want to text and surf and run the bill up?

I'm with the vast majority, mostly for the same reasons:

Your mother said no and that means no.

I can't think of any good reasons why a 13 year old girl should have one...Get a job and pay for one yourself if you just HAVE to have one.

Because you work for a living and should be able to spend it on a cell phone if that's what you want. Paying the bills on time will be a good way to demonstrate responsibility and learn to be adult.

there arent any reasons for a 13 yr old to have a cell....at least not until u start driving (at 16 or 18) and are old enough to take care of urself.....im shocked to see young kids carrying around cells...and then ppl wonder why kids are "growing up too fast"....

Good for your mother. Cell phones are over rated these days. Lots of kids and teenagers with them and they don't know what life is like without one! Sadly! I didn't have a cell growing up and am glad for that. I applaud your mother. n

i live in the uk and us mums like their kids to have a phone especially at 13 at least they will know they can get hold of you if need be, if your ever late coming in they can get hold of you (not that you should be out late your only 13) its a good way of making sure your kids are safe

hmm when you go to school, 4 emergencies, wen you're out with friends and your parents want to check up on you. thats all i can think of cuz i dnt really NEED 1 either lol. i just wanted 1. im 12 and i hav 1. just tell your mom that you'll mostly use it wen the minutes r free like on weekends or after 7:00 pm thats wat i did.

can't think of one good reason that a 13 yr old would need a cell phone. sorry. get a job and get your own.
