I'm just wondering if there is any historical record of these people, and whether they had their own "offshoot" church. Did the church of Diotrephes continue?
I'm wondering if there is any historical evidence to clarify how the rejection of Jesus' Apostles, in early Christendom, may have affected the way Christianity is taught to us today...

The Bible gives so much evidence of universal apostasy amongst the earliest Christians. The Apostles were fighting against rampant apostacy in the people of the church... and then the Apostles were all killed (before any of it was resolved).
How then can we rely upon Christian tradition to teach us of Jesus Christ? Wouldn't we need a restoration of truth (directly from Jesus) in order to really know what his doctrine was, since the early Church was so corrupted?
