PBS pledge drives seem to be getting more end more frequent. PBS used to run interesting programming during pledge weeks; now, they dust off a depressing collection of reruns from the last few pledge drives, infomercials for self-help authors and geriatric "reunion" rock concerts.

PBS boasts that it doesn't have commercial interruptions. Believe me, there are a lot of commercials I would rather see than the dead air of exhortations for contributions to "your local PBS station" (the pledge drives are no longer even locally produced!)

Can't PBS come up with a better fundraising strategy than those infernal pledge drives?

I agree with you, I wish they would come up with something better or at least cut back on the drives. It used to only be once a yr, then it went to twice and now it is every other month. I would think they are spending more on the drive than they're raising.

All I know is that when it comes on, I change the channel.
