Might be a stupid question but has anyone actually sat down and read Richard Dawkins- The God Delusion?
I would be pleasently surprised if any has.
I just got this book (from my younger brother!) and the author has been recently been voted one of the top three intellectuals in the World.
I have just started it...it is meant to make you re-think your way of life.
Are christians too scared to read this book and why is it been kept quiet?

Look Guys...I respect everyones beliefs in religion...I show my support for my friends and family who are Catholic Christians and will put my beliefs behind me for their love...
I love life as well and accept us all as natures miracle and hate that we are throwing all that away. What is so bad about that?

I do not need a book to know what I believe, I believed in God since as far back as I can remember, even though I was not brought up in a Christian home, and even though I did my own thing and lived a hedonistic lifestyle until about 11 years ago, I did not begin to read or study the bible at all until I was 34 years old, so clearly I did not form my belief from reading a book, I know God in my heart, and that is where it counts. Satan is a real deceiver and that is exactly how he works, plant the doubt, but what does your heart tell you, if you were in an accident would you cry out "OH GOD HELP ME"? you know the bible says that in the last days MANY will turn from their faith, people need to question and understand what they believe, because believe me it WILL BE TESTED. My best to you all. Peace

You would be surprised if anyone has read it? Huh?

Lots and lots of people have read it. Unfortunately, not nearly enough religious people have read it.

Anyway, I've read it, yeah. I really think that The Selfish Gene is a better book, and even though it's on a different subject, it packs a wallop in the arena of arguing against religion.

Yes the Christians are the all powerful and can stifle book sales....
Or could be it didn't go over too good where it really counts?.

I couldn't say as I've not read it. Maybe Christians have not read it because it's been kept quite...hummm...I'm game to read it.
You sound a bit paranoid sister...

In the process of reading it now. I'm also reading The Blind Watchmaker (also by Dawkins), and Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris.

Yes, it is a great book. One of my favorite. Others include "Losing Faith in Faith" by Dan Barker, "Atheist Universe" by David Mills and "Letter to a Christian Nation" by Sam Harris. Also reccomend the movie "The God Who Wasn't There."

Actually...no, give me a little more info and I'll gladly look it up in the library. It hasn't been advertised in my area or I might have read it already just for a good laugh.

As for whether or not we're scard, Christians in general prefer to be cautious rather than believe everything thrown at them. take it with a grain of salt (folk saying) and beware false prophets (biblical saying) etc

The book was boring and full of things most atheists had already thought by ourselves. As i once said "if wanted to hear what i already knew, i would have done a monologue", it might be good for theists though.

I don't know why christians are not reading this book. Perhaps the belief that everything that may move you away from your faith is the work of satan is preventing them from reading this book.

naw, I'm not scared to read a book. I'm just not going to fill my head nor my heart with non-sense. that is my personal belief just like it is your personal belief to think that Christians are afraid to read other people's opinions.
