We bought several bolts of tulle. Cut it and tied bows around the backs of chairs. It looked stunning.

Be careful! You MUST know the size of the chairs & be absolutley positive they will not be substituted on the day of. This potion is time consuming and often costs more than you woudl pay for rental.
Your best bet, if you feel you have to DIY, is to go for a pillowcase style cover, they are very large, fit many size chairs and the corners can tie int he back or be tucked down. Check out www.chaircoversonline.com for photos, and rental rates! You might be better off renting. You can even check wedding rentals in your local area and avoid shipping fees.
Another option many of my clients use is to purchase tulle in a coordinating wedding color. You can tie on e chair with the look you like (big bow, simple knot, etc) and determine the length that looks best (don't go 100% to the floor as the chairs will catch on the ties) then use this 'sample' as your measure guide to pre-cut the tulle. Day of, assign several people (1 per 2 tablesis good) and have them get it doen. better yet, have the reception venue do it for you!
Best of luck!

I would look for a cheap lightweight material that you like at a fabric store...check the clearances...large bulk of material is pretty easy to find. Measure the chair you want to cover say it is 48" tall from the floor to the top of the back of the chair. Then measure the width of the back of the chair so each strip of material covers the back of the chair. I would double it and cut a 96" strip of material then lay the material over the chair. If you wanted to use less material, you could just cover the back of the chair not the seat. Then use the toulle for the tie on like a belt for the chair with the bow in back...easy!!!

You can buy sections of tulle, bind them together and tie them around the chair. Make a small floral arrangment and pin them to the knot in the tulle.

Go to a local craft store/fabric store and buy some silk or tulle fabric and tie it in a bow therefore you can add your own touch to it.(a flower, jewel in the center)Once you have one that you create use that as your pattern

I found a few sites that may help. I also saw some at the party store 4 for $9.99, I'm not sure if making them is cheaper or not, I guess ti would depend on the fabric etc. Good luck!
