As much as our politicians - even those in opposition to President Bush - deny it, there is only one reason why 3,800 U.S. soldiers have died, 75,600 have been disabled, and 675,000 Iraqis have been killed:
OIL and WAR PROFITEERING.
The Bush-Cheney administration lied to Congress, hoodwinked the American people, and conned our valiant soldiers into believing this 'war' had some honorable purpose. Anyone who still believe this 'war' is about bringing democracy to Iraq is a fool. Anyone who thinks this 'war' is about defending our country from 'terrorists' in an unknown 'evil empire' is gullible. Anyone who assumes we're at 'war' to bring peace to the Middle East is naive.
We are at 'war' because the Bush family had a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein ever since the days of Desert Storm when George H.W. Bush was ridiculed, criticized and humiliated for 'not finishing the job' and ousting Hussein at that time. We're at 'war' because Dick Cheney wants all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so that he and his Exxon-Mobil buddies can get richer and richer and richer feeding America's addiction to cheap, easily-accessible foreign oil instead of developing alternative energy sources. We're at 'war' because the giant U.S. military-industrial complex [which Eisenhower warned us about] needed anew 'war' to boost sagging profits from so many years of peace. Add to that the two 'newcomers' to the government's war trough: the Carlyle Group and Halliburton - both of whom have made BILLIONS from this 'war' - BOTH had direct ties to the Bush-Cheney White House!
We're at 'war' with another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States just so a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers can become wealthier and more powerful - at any cost. That's why 3,800 U.S. soldiers have died. That's why American taxpayers are now TRILLIONS of dollars in debt. That's why hundreds of thousands of Iraq citizens are dead, injured, homeless, and poverty-stricken.
George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and all their war-mongering friends deserve a special oil-soaked, blood-stained corner of Hell, where they can suffer through eternity along with:
all 535 members of the most arrogant, incompetent, contemptible, cowardly, corrupt Republic-led Congress in history which stood by and allowed Bush to run rip shod over our Constitution;
all 535 members of the most arrogant, incompetent, contemptible, cowardly, corrupt Democratic-led Congress in history which promised to end this war, if they were elected, and - to date - has done nothing to keep that promise.
May God damn them all!! -RKO- 09/08/07

"There were 2,974 fatalities, not including the 19 hijackers: 246 on the four planes (no one on board any of the hijacked aircraft survived),[21] 2,603 in New York City in the towers and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon.[22] Among the fatalities were 343 New York City Fire Department firefighters, 23 New York City Police Department officers, and 37 Port Authority Police Department officers.[23] Lieutenant General Timothy Maude was the highest ranking person killed at the Pentagon[24] and John P. O'Neill was a former assistant director of the FBI who assisted in the capture of Ramzi Yousef and was the head of security at the World Trade Center when he was killed trying to rescue people from the South Tower.[25] An additional 24 people remain listed as missing.[26]" -wikipedia
Where are the terrorists? Iraq. Why? Because American Soldiers are there fighting so that you can enjoy the freedoms you have.
Where will they be if we leave? Here. Why? Because their goal is to kill or convert americans.
What will you sacrifice to ensure your children enjoy the freedoms you have today?

I assume you were listing the U.S. casualties from military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. If that's the case, you need to change the battery in your calculator or get a better source of information. Only 13, 422 military personnel were injured or wounded in those two theaters of operations and not returned to duty with 72 hours. That figure is current as of 10AM Washington time last Tuesday.
As for the other figure, there have been 3,321 total personnel killed in action as of 10AM last Tuesday.

For what? 9/11, money, saving our economy from crashing when oil prices shoot up and making us use our oil reserves...
Oh and getting a foothold in the middle east to take care of Iran and the 100 other examples the government could tell us but won't because the masses (people) are stupid.
