I know you can do it from normal pictures but want to know how you do it and what you need. I would like to surprise my grand daughter for her birthday. Thank you

The process uses a machine that is actually a Canon ink jet printer engine but filled with food dye instead of ink. The image is then printed onto dry white icing. The firm that supplies the equipment is Carberry Limited and most bakers have got one.

a few of the large supermarkets (asda to name just one) make these cakes. Just take a good photo into the bakery and they will scan it on the computer then print onto icing sheets. i am not sure how long it takes, so you would need to ring and check. I have seen a couple from this store at parties my kids have been to and they are brilliant. I think if you were to do it at home you would need special icing programmes and a special printer, which - from a guy i know on ebay who does them as well - it VERY very expensive. His broke and it was about 4 months before he was back in business again.

hi asda do this service along with many more supermarkets but if all else fails.years ago before this came out i put a pic on a cake simply by useing a photo .i placed tin foil on the back of the pic and placed it into the position i wanted on the cake and did fancy piping around the edges of the photo which then holds it in place it looked really affective and my son loved it..good luck how ever you do it and hope your grand daughter enjoys..

If you are in the UK, places like Tesco and Sainsburys will do it from a photograph. We did daughters 18th cake last year - with a picture of her at 1!!

I know someone who had a cake like you are after and the person baking it went online and found firms who turn a photo into an icing picture from an scanned copy sent to them it wasn't expensive and only took a couple of days and arrived in the post quite safely

Asda sell the cake with the full kit and instructions in. I saw them in there yesterday, but i didn't read the box, sorry.I would imagine you need a digital photo on a camera or phone. It's a lovely idea!

In the past I wrapped photos in cling wrap and framed them on the cakes using piping icing! the other day while browsing at Hobby Lobby I saw some edible paper stuff that you run through the ink jet printer and put the photo on then apply it to the cake! Sounds like what you have in mind. Picture of your daughter and one of her horses would be fantastic!! I think most of the other crafts stores that have Wilton display aisles would have this edible paper for ink jet printers!!

I took a 5x7 photo of my son to the bakery (at Raley's) and they were able to copy it and transpose it onto his cake. The colors were quite faded, but it was still neat.

Our cake was a 1/2 sheet and they blew up the pic to cover one half of it.

Good luck!

You would have to take the photo to a local grocery store or baker that uses computer imaging. The computer equipment and tools would cost far more than it would to have them bake the cake and decorate it for you.

I do not know but my advice to you is to go to a bakery and have them do it for you if you cant afford it in the size you desire, then buy the size you can afford and then make a next cake to get the quantity you want. you may pay extra but it is for your grand daughter right so do it for her.
