I think that all the sports enthusiasts out there would agree that even if they dont like NASCAR that it is a sport just like some people dont feel golf or cheerleading is a sport or whatever the sport may be but NASCAR is a sport and its a great sport. The drivers have to be physically and mentally fit in order to succeed and their is alot more to it then what meets the eye.

Very good article.
Having worked as an EMT/PARAMEDIC at races at Talladega and Daytona I've seen the drivers "pulled"from the cars after a race and them be as limp as a rag from the heat and "physical"exhaustion after races.
Having driven these cars there is a lot of physical movement inside of a car.For the naysayers, they need to try what a NASCAR fan knows.

Great article, yes they are athletes, I;ve known this for a long time, to endure what they did last weekend out here in calif, if they weren't in shape, they would be been in trouble big time..

I've never doubted it for a minute -- only a great athlete in top condition could have possibly endured the conditions in Fontana last Sunday.

I believe that it takes allot of physical activity to participate in a race. Driving in the heat with all the distractions. Constant G-Forces applied to the body. It is similar to that of a fighter pilot. I applaud them.
