The major difference is that the common cold is viral, whereas a sinus infection usually originates as a bacterial infection. As such, a sinus infection is typically treated with a quick round of antibiotics, whereas a cold is not. As far as treating a cold, try to get some rest and drink plenty of fluids. It is a common myth that vitamin C helps a cold, but vitamin C is water soluble and as such you simply pee it out when taking large amounts..so things like airborne are really not worthwhile or effective treatments. Usually you just control the symptoms of a cold, but the virus needs to resolve itself. If symptoms persist, you need to see a doctor! I am NOT a doctor, and offer this advice from my own experiences/research.

A head cold is a common cold mainly affecting the mucous membranes of the nasal passages, characterized by congestion, headache, and sneezing.

Generally a cold will clear up on its own in 7-10 days. A sinus infection/condition will last longer and does not respond well to over the counter decongestants.

Seek medical advise if the symptoms do not go away in about a week.

some people lump them together, but sinus conditions are usually having pain in the sinuses, where a cold has nasal discharge, coughing, and a temperature. As far as hearing your chewing your sinuses can block up and force fluids into your ear canals and that transmits the sounds into your ears.
The thing to try is an antihistamine like sudafed if you can take it,and see if that stops your sneezing and pressure.
