People like to bring up minor stuff like where it says Moses went up this particular mountain but in another version it says he went up another mountain or the part where there are two different versions of how many animals went into the ark.

These are NOTHING but MINOR mistakes. Mistakes happen. People are human and they will be made, especially if a book is long enough and old enough.

These mistakes have absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not it is true. Agree?

Interesting, because we are often told that EVERY WORD of the Bible is the inspired, accurate word of god. Therefore, all those "minor mistakes" you speak of shouldn't be in there at all.

Further, when you have Gen. 1 and 2 present to completely different versions of creation and all four gospels telling a different resurrection story, and two different genealogies for Jesus, the "minor mistakes" as you call them start to become a problem.

The Bible makes the case for atheism easy.

Actually, I have to agree with a few of the answers and say that I am not aware of any *real* discrepancy, significant or otherwise, when a *valid interpretation* is applied.

For example, the most *glaring* "discrepancy" of the bible is the creation of the sun on the 4th day. This assumes that you take the word "day" literally. I believe that the author was wholly unable to comprehend the stages of creation or the concept of billions of years, and so wrote "day" as that was the most analogous concept available to him.

I am only aware of one other *likely* "discrepancy" (the conflicting sizes of Solomon's doomed trading fleet), and am unaware of discrepancies involving Moses in a mountain.

I am definitely unaware of any discrepancy of how many animals went into the ark. Gen 6:19 says "you shall bring two of every kind" and 7:2 says "of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female; and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female", but this is *not* contradictory to 6:19, but rather supplementary. In other words, if there were 7, then there must have been two. He did not say "two, only two, and never for any reason any more than two". Most likely, 6:19 merely fails to report the complete instructions given in 7:2. Regardless of the reasons for the differences between the verses, there is no contradiction here.

Yes and no...I know of no contradictions in the "Bible" minor or otherwise. In this context I'm using the word "Bible" as a substitute for "the word of God". IMHO, all of the so-called contradictions are a result of interpretation errors not inherent errors in the Bible itself.

The Bible I read is an English translation of earlier translations of each book...and yes, it contains contradictions caused by improper translation. That's why I think it is so important to study the original language (and other translations) when you discover something that sounds contradictory. In my experience, every superficial contradition in the book I'm reading can be resolved by careful and prayerful study to discover the original meaning and context.

The issue is not what happened, but rather the question of the Bible being literal. The errors you cite indicate that it is not literal. Some of the "MINOR mistakes" counter major doctrines.

Job 1:1
"There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright..."
Original sin clearly does not apply.

The bible is full of contradictions and inaccuracies which only provide proof to the fact that it is merely a work conceived by men, written by men, for the purpose of exerting control over men.

How about the contradiction that says that your god loves all of us, yet he still sends us to hell for minor transgressions? That's a pretty big one.

And I thought this book was the work of your god. Humans make mistakes, yes, but I thought your god didn't.

And I know your book is not true.

Would God let his message be corrupted? If the book is inspired by an omniscient God, then how could there be any mistakes, no matter how small?

There are plenty of contradictions. You just don't want to hear about them.
