"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

The Protestants left the Roman Catholic Church because, a while back, Martin Luther has a list of 95 problems he had with the Catholic Church. When he didn't feel like they were being addressed, he left. I think the Presbyterians split from the Protestants sometime later.

The main difference today is the Eucharist. Catholic believe that Jesus meant exactly what he said when he said "This is My Body, This is My Blood." They refer to this mystery during the part of the mass when bread and wine is offered as transubstantiation, the bread/wine become truly the body/blood. On the other hand, Protestants and Presbyterians tend to believe in consubstantiation. Among the various demoninations, the beliefs tend toward a symbolic interpretation of Jesus's words and the communion is merely a commemoration.

Other than that, there are not too many differences. Catholics ask Mary and the Saints to intercede to Jesus for them, believe in Purgatory, think good works are just as important as having faith, and have allegiance to the Pope. But basic things are the same.

I hope this helps.

I must say this is a BIG can of worms

Well, you want it simple; Roman Catholic’s use the writings of their father before the Word of God, Protestants, (should, but for the most part no longer) stand upon the Word of God as their rule of faith. The “Protestants” which should be pronounced PRO-TEST-ANTS have stopped being Protestants for the most parts and are joining hand with the Catholic Church whenever and however they can. Like their three in one god pagan belief, the worship of “Mary”, praying for the dead, that the dead go to hell or heaven etc. None of which is founded upon the scriptures, but founded upon the writings of the church fathers.

The Presbyterians, and other denominations are so much like their mother that most of the times you cannot tell them apart.

The true Pro-test-ants departed from the Roman Catholic Church because of all the pagan teachings and the false doctrines that the church taught. Like bowing down and giving reverence to stone statutes, I mean how pagan can you get, the Word of God has much to say against this pagan practice and not none of it is good.

If one where to go back and study what the early Protestants taught about the Catholic Church; you would find that they where much the same.
The Catholic Church leadership and its doctrines are / was / is the whore of Babylon, the mother of harlots etc, and to true Protestants there has been no change in that stance. This is why they left the Roman Catholic Church.

I dont know the exact differences between the different groups of christians - its more their lenicency on different teachings and rules e.g Catholics are more strict then the other 2. Also different interparatations on the words of the bbile as some one has already stated as some - mainly protestants and presbyterians, and not catholics, believe in the metophorical interperatations whereas catholics look at the bible in more literal terms. Also who thye consider more important people e.g the mary over jesus thing some one has mentioned, and different saints.

Protestants left the Catholic church during the 1600's i believe when King Henry 8th formed the Church of England (protestant church) So that he could be all powerful and rule completly over his country - england ;) lol - without having to listen to the Catholic church ;) this is the actul truth not some rubbishness about people writing lists as in the 1600 - late 1700's i think protestants and catholics were fighting

~I know they all believe in Jesus, but if Im not mistaken, only Roman Catholics believe in the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Only RC's make the sign on the Cross before Prayer, and the only people that are allowed to be leaders of the religious community are men. They are very Patriarchal, where protestants are more inclusive.

Presbyterians are a form of Protestant. A Protestant is any Christian that is not Roman Catholic. It all started with Martin Luther protested against the Catholic church and reformed many of the rituals so that they would be easier for the lay people (religious public) to understand and participate in.

Protestant is a general term referring to the various churches that split from the Roman Catholic Church after the 1500's. They generally have different views of papal supremacy, the role of scripture, the meaning of communion, and the means of salvation than Catholics. Presbyterianism is a form of protestantism. Originally, they were Scottish followers of John Calvin, who most famously believe in unconditional election or predestination. I do not know if all Presbyterians today can be considered Calvinists.

Christianity is a cult, Yes Jesus was a great prophet,,, the same as was was Mohamed. Christians believe the Bible ended 2000 + yrs ago. Catholics are the predecessors of censorship,,, in the early days of the christian church,,,, Empire Constantine was able to decide what sacred books would or would not be allowed. This was still a time of roman rule. That is why there will always be religious wars.... Keep your sights on the OLD TESTAMENT,,, all religions use parts of it

Presbyterianism is a denomination of Protestantism. Catholicism and Protestantism are both a part of Christianity as they both believe in Jesus Christ as lord and savior who died on the cross for our sins. The first break away form the Catholic Church was the Eastern Orthodox movement then came a different break away form the Orthodox churches such as the Moravians and Hussites etc, then came the Martin Luther lead reformation.

mainly because the catholic church praise Mary more than Jesus. and they used to sell indulgences and ask money to get people out of purgatory follow many things not from the bible so some protested and ended up forming a new church.

the protestants left the catholic church because they realized it was a false dictatorship, they found out they were punishing people for reading the real BIBLE.... basically, it boils down to the fact that their lies were uncovered.
