My cat is 17 years old. She's got thyroid problems, and is on pills for them. She's doing quite well, except for the fact that she's peeing in the house...She has a litterbox in our laundry room, which she poops in, but she pees in our plants, in the corners of our rooms, on newspapers...etc. My mom is sick of it, and wants to get her put to sleep. It seems like such a terrible reason to put her to death when otherwise she's healthy. Is there anything we can do to get her not to pee in the house? I'm not exactly sure why she wont use her litterbox. But, if you have any suggestions, I'll try anything!

She probably has a urinary tract infection. Take her to see the vet, they will test her urine to confirm the diagnosis. The cure is easy two pills a day for two weeks. My male cat had the same problem about a month ago -- problem solved -- he went back to his litter box in about one day.

I had the same problem with one of my cats. At first I would suggest adding a couple of litter boxes. The bladder of older cats sometimes can't hold it that long for the cat to go all the way to the laundry room.

However, I fully understand your mom. I finally took my cat and had it put to sleep after it ruined my panties by peeing all over them. Hope this does not happen to you and best of luck.

Well if she likes to pee in plants, why don't you make the litter box look like a big plant, maybe then she'll pee in it. Also I'd put all of the plants and everything she pees on out of her reach. Well hope this sort of helped!

You may think the cat is healthy, but cats are prone to kidney diseases. Especially at your cats age. The peeing like that is
also a sign that something is wrong. You need to know that
the cat could be in pain. That is a great age for a cat.
