i download movies everytime i play the movie on window media it play the sound but no picture. its like its playing a song with the moving colors. so i downloaded VLC but they still play on windows media

just rytclick on them and choose open with .. choose vlc .. tick the always open with box .. if they are avi u could install ffdshow and they will work on wmp anyway ..

Control panel
Folder options
File types
scroll down to the extension WMV and in the lower pane click "change"
then select from "recomended programs" the VLC media player. Then OK
All your WMV files will switch to VLC automatically
