Here are some possible reasons early men lived so long.
1. Pure gene pool created with Adam and Eve that was not damaged by past generations of disease, radiation, drugs, etc. There would have been no inherited adverse medical conditions.
2. Pure environment without pollution.
3. Pure and balanced food source. No processed food, no preservatives or additives. No artificial ingredients or color. Food was free of pesticides and artificial hormones.
3. Possibly there was a different climate before the flood.
4. Possibly because of God's help, letting people live longer to populate the Earth.

If you would believe what the Bible says you would understand the meaning of your question.!
Yes they did have medicines back then ( they are call herbs ) and people did live to be over one hundred years old. They count their years as we do today.
They ate healthier and obeyed God for the most part. They had leprosy and other diseases. Mary Magdalene had an issue of blood that she herself believed would be cured just by touching the hem of Jesus garment. Their life styles were not much different than ours except that they did not have automobiles for transportation. They walked or rode burros, donkeys, or camels.
Noah was 500 some years old when God told him to build the ark. Read the Bible (KJV is my preference) to learn more about their life styles and how they lived.
Read the Bible for yourself and find out a whole lot of interesting things about life.
It has stories about romance, deception, guilt, murder, and the one that I like the most is the one about Love.
John 3:16,17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Good reading. Enjoy.

It seems like you answered your own question when you say "I dont believe they did". IMO the Bible is a story book used to teach moral principles. When they say 'he lived to 101' maybe what they mean is 'he lived a long time because he was a good person and God favored him or her'

closer to perfection. Why do you suppose God cursed the ground on adams account? did the ground deserve it? well adam was perfect until he sinned, he didn't lose his mental and physical abilities right away, if God hadnt hindered him by making a living take up most of his energies he would of had energy and time to come up with some diabolic technology.
But that curse was lifted after the flood. Also as generations got furthur and furthur from perfection the numbers started to drop. by moses day, it was 70 or 80 if by special mightiness recorded at 90:10.of psalms. Also when we got to our generation say 100+ years or so ago we started to develope technologically, thus the ages went up as our living standards went up. some cultures they still only live to be 40 due to not having access to this technology.

I am a Christian, but also a person of science. I don't have to believe a "literal" interpretation of every thing in the Bible, especially the old Testament. (i.e., I don't have to believe Balaam's *** spoke to him to believe in Jesus).
I think you have to look at this from a cultural perspective. Age meant great wisdom in the ancient Middle East, there were no records, no city hall and most people couldn't count, so these ages are probably meant to be really impressive, not literally taken.
Now the commandement to love and treat your neighbor as yourself, that God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son to die for our sins, and to love and pray for your enemies - that's meant to be taken literally.

You don't need medicines if you aren't polluting your body, which is what we do concerning the things we eat and the environment we live in.
People who say "That which doesn't kill me makes me stronger" are idiots. Anything that taxes the body and self has in turn weakened it in some way, using it up.

it was closer to the time when Adam and Eve were perfect. They were meant to live forever. It is sin that deemed that man should grow old and die, and even now a few live beyond 100 while others die before their 50.

when the first man and women where created they where perfect. but due to there wrong course they did not pass it on to there children. but the children and so on down the line were a lot closer then you and i now. hence there bodies lasted a lot longer then ours. but as evidence from the bibles accounts it did not take long for life spans to greatly diminish.
