I am a lead person on the floor. Every time I ask "Debbie" to do something or show her how to do something, she gets all freaked out. A simple task sends her into a panic. All she wants to do is a run a machine where she can sit down. When I do train her on a new task, she again gets all stessed out and then tells the owner I didn't train her well enogh to do the job. I had to move her 3 times yesterday because she acted like this at each task. Once she is at a machine that requires very little work, she is fine. I believe she does this on purpose. I hate to deal with her but have no choice. How would you handle someone like that? She also talks a lot of crap about people that are my friends there.

Document it ! Document everything and I mean everything to CYA.
And speak to your boss about her. Tell your boss about her "gossiping in the office" her not willing to learn and she's not doing her job.
i am currently unemployed and trying so hard to get a job and it really irritates me when someone acts like her in my office, they are everywhere.
Maybe she's looking for a reason to be fired so she can collect unemployment.

So, do not heed to her "so called panic attacks" and MAKE HER STAY ON THE JOB YOU ARE TRAINING HER TO DO!!"

You are "contributing to her laziness". There are good people like me who work hard and appreciate the fact I have a job.

So remember one thing, you can be replaced as easy as she can and that sound like what she's trying to do.

Write everyday down and start giving her verbal then written warnings or whatever you company policy is. And remember stay on her, make her complete the job you are training her on and ask her if she has any questions, that way you stay covered.
Remind her, you are the lead and it's your job to train her, if she's not willing to learn, to let you know now, but she's not coming off the job at task.

Gosh I hate lazy people and she is manipulating you, put a stop to that now, let her quit if she doesn't like it, be nice yet firm in your training and NO MORE LETTING HER GET OUT OF A TRAINING TILL IT'S COMPLETE. She either picks it up or she doesn't, oh and WATCH YOUR BACK.

Hedy sad fact is that you are always going to have to deal with workers like this and to accommodate them as best you can. Perhaps if you were to almost treat her in a childlike way, without her knowledge, and make these new tasks seem like fun and a challenge. Regardless of whether she is talking crap about you or not I'm certain that her co-workers will eventually get tired of all her excuses and reasons for not wanting to learn different things as they probably have to do also. Your superior is obviously watching and documenting all her reasons and excuses etc., he will need to do this and make sure that all his t's are crossed and i's dotted before speaking with her about her lack of ability etc. He will want to build pretty strong case if case he/she has to let this employee go and doesn't want to be faced with any type of wrongful dismissmal lawsuit. Continue doing your job and being a good power of example to this lady, I have a funny feeling that she'll be leaving the company long before you. Best of luck.

'Debbie ' Sounds insecure and I would tell her outright that if she can't handle the jobs set for her then you may have to replace her with someone who can handle the task. If she gets so upset then -to me- it borders on insubordination and she could be let go,,that is unless of course she is not a disability case. If a person can't handle the workload then she should be canned. Let her find another job that will deal with her attitude. Tell the supervisor she is not suited to the task you put her on and then let he be dealt with by the higher ups.

Don't get caught up in the petty gossip stuff, but you should be documenting daily your efforts with her so when it does escalate to full out nonsense and you want to fire her, you have the documentation to do it. Whatever the policy. I know a lot of places you have to give so many warnings about lack of performance and then written notices etc. So do your paperwork so that the owner isn't looking at you like you are acting unprofessionally.

Explain to her that her job is not to sit and run the machine and if she is not there to work then she needs to look else were. If that doesn't work send her home and write her up she is not doing her job and is making the rest of you suffer. If neither one of those work slap some since into her>>>>

she probably is a really nervous person. if she was just lazy, she wouldn't be getting freaked out but would be more nonchalant. i think she might have personal issues or something going on with her. i would keep her on tasks that requires little work b/c she seems to do well at them, but reprimand her for talking crap b/c that's very unprofessional.
