Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."
Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.
Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person, anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. "Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action." "The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose." For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of "the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved."
To form an equitable judgment about the subjects' moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.
2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.

I don't think I have ever been to a Mass where they talk about sex. EVER. It is always scripture, but I have yet to hear one about masturbation! WOW I don't even now what to say. It is good you believe in marriage. Keep yourself pure, and try to help your friend so that her urges do not turn to evil lusts.
Anyone who says masturbation is not natural or whatever, just realize that it is a normal part of life, just don't overdo it.

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders!! you don't let others influence you. Good to hear you'll have sex when you are good and ready.
As for the masturbating well I can not imagine something so natural to be bad. I'm Catholic too but I never stopped to ask if it was good or bad. Don't put to thought into something so natural.
As for your friend well I'd stay out of her business especially something as personal as this.

there is nothing wrong with masturbation, try not to worry about what the church does or doesn't talk about.
I am a Catholic, also but was once in mass when the priest was recommending a political candidate.
also, when my husband died his friend/co-worker wanted to do the eulogy, the guy was a baptist preacher.this offended the priest and I was told I had to choose one.the priest or the friend/minister.my husband had requested his friend and that's what I did.sometimes, you can't go along with everything your church says, with any religion.

I was Catholic for 27 years. No you are not allowed to masturbate, it is considered a sin. No sex, no pleasuring yourself, no unclean thoughts, no desire.... all sinful to dwell on.
I couldn't live with it anymore as it didn't make much sense but just be safe at all times no matter what your decision about sex is. Namaste

Sex is not bad in any way as long as you do it in moderation and you protect yourself and others. It's healthy, natural and what nature intended. Don't let a guilt trip ruin the most wonderful of things in the world.

Totally natural. And I saw just the other day a study suggesting that for men, regular masturbation correlates with less chance of prostate cancer later in life ... another indication that our bodies' natural sexual attributes are, well, natural!
One way to show thanks for a gift someone gives you is simply to enjoy that gift. Life in a human body is God's gift to us.
