No they are so far behind it is pitiful. Just like this Richmond race the fastest qualifying Toyota was 24 th?? or so.

No, Toyota is struggling because of the teams that they have driving for them. I knew this was going to happen a year ago. Michael Waltrip racing is a brand new team. They are going to struggle for a couple years at least before they come close to winning races. All race teams go through this at the beginning. I don't know why the big wigs at Toyota had such big expectations for their brand to be starting the Cup series winning races this year.
Let me be clear here, I love Toyota, I drive Toyota's and I think it's great they are now in NASCAR, but they have such huge expectations. They were expecting to compete with Hendrick and Joe Gibbs right from the beginning of the year. Someone at the offices obviously didn't do their research before setting those goals. Nextel Cup has the toughest competition out of any motorsports series. There are big names these days that struggle to qualify into an event when 9 or 10 years ago they would be qualifying top 20 easily.
I think now that Toyota has jumped on with Gibbs for next season they will then see some results. I don't think it will be right away, but probably a good 10 or 15 races into the '08 season, they might get their first win.

Lets see, 2001. Dodge joins Nascar. Did end the year with 4 wins. 9 teams, and over all ended up 4th in the manufacturers standing. That being out of 4 manufacturers. Pontiac had 4 teams, and 5 wins. Chevy want the Manuf. and Championship that year.
Just because it is your first year. 2001 they thought Ray would dominate the series.

No, they're a manufacturer in their first year, with two startup teams and a mediocre team with one car that doesn't suck. They're not sandbagging, it's just reality.
