......sound great with any other genre, but every rap song I try sounds really bad quality. The speakers make a low, grumbling kind of sound whenever there's a bass drum (which sounds really bad). Anyone know what the problem could be? The speakers are new, my dad just bought them, but I'm not sure the brand or model.

Please no stupid "Rap sounds terrible anyway" answers.

I tried this, and even when I turn the bass all the way down, it still makes the noise. I have no idea what this could be (If I play it on a computer, or on my iPod, the crazy bass thing isn't there.

I'm using SP6CII Soundpoint Series 6" 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers, on some old Superscope Stereo-Quadraphase Reciever (no separate amplifier), if that helps.

The sounds from your Speakers are delivered from different frequency's,
The Style and quality of your speakers determines how the frequencies are handled and delivered. Hip/Hop and Rap use more bass then other genres.
if its only happening with Hip/Hop and Rap, adjust your bass setting on the stereo that should eliminate the problem. You may not get that deep bass sound that is sought after with Hip/Hop but your speakers my not be able to handle the low frequencies.

Given what you listen to, you have answered your own question.
One thing you might try is backing off the bass on your receiver. Try lowering the bass little by little until you get the sound you like and it is no longer make that irritating sound.
