God never said a single word to eve before she ate the fruit, . Her only contact was with Adam who was literally born yesterday, and a talking snake. For that matter there were generations of people who had morals before they invented the story of moses and his 10 commandments.

The only thing that Satan gave Adam and Eve is the truth. The snake told them only the truth, they did not die, they were turned out into the world. Throughout the Bible, it is difficult to find evils done by Satan, God seemed to need Satan a lot. Adam and Eve were not able to make any decision but to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, they couldn't have known it was wrong, since they had no Knowledge of wrongness. Without Satan's trick in the garden there could have been no sapience nor conscience nor, in fact, the intelligence to have morality.

Adam talked to God daily, in the cool of the day God came to the Garden, Eve talked to him too, mostly Adam
I think he told him more than we will ever know
He was part God, not like us
They needed the 10 Commandments because they rebelled against God, would not follow God after that and he wanted them to know what he wanted and what was good for them to live and not die
like hygiene he taught them all of that and more

Adam was created in God's image, according to God's likeness. Thus a human Son of God endowed with a sense of morality as his Father, the God of Love, Righteousness and Justice.
From Adam, Eve was taken and they were clothed in Holy Spirit till the day they ate the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Thus sinning against the Holy Spirit, which departed from them, opening their eyes to evil. Coming then to knowledge of badness that produces death.
Religion does not prevent people from murdering each other, Cain murdered his brother Abel out of religious jealously. Murder is a fruit of ignoring our moral instinct to love our neighbour. The world of Noah's day was full of religion, yet God condemned it because of moral ruin.
Immediately after the flood, God, with His Rainbow covenant with mankind stated: "Anyone shedding man's blood, by man will his own blood be shed, for in God's image He made man." ~ Genesis 9:6
The Ten Commandments were a fundamental part of God's covenant with the nation of Israel to produce the promised Seed that will rescue mankind from destruction.
Ancient Israel promised God to abide by His rules to be come
a holy nation of priest in His service to the world. But Israel failed on its part time and again, revealing the sinfulness of mankind and our need of a Savior.

In the Genesis story, Adam and Eve got their knowledge of good and evil, and thus ethics and morality, from the apple. It was having morals which doomed them to die.
Religion was designed to save people from having to make their own ethical decisions. All the ethical decisions were entrusted to the priesthood, who in turn trusted a set of predefined, absolute laws. It didn't matter that they didn't make good sense; making good sense is part of the knowledge of good and evil, and thus part of sin and what was causing people to die.
A "moral" person, according to the old testament, isn't someone that does the right thing. In fact, making ethical decisions for yourself will make you subject to "all the curses in the bible" according to Deutoronomy. Trying to do the right thing, then, is trying to make your own ethical decision, and is wrong. The right thing, is simply trusting the bible, and following the law to the letter, thus allowing you to maintain a state of innocence, like the state Adam and Eve were in before they ate the apple and got morality.

Since they never existed it's a moot point. But how could they even have had morals based on the story since they didn't even know of good and evil until they ate the magic fruit?

They spent an unspecified amount of time walking in God's presence. What? Do you think they just talked about the weather?

I don't usually waste my time using the bible to discredit the christians.
It gives the bible too much leverage, and seeing that i think it's all a bunch of hogwash, how can I use it to back myself up.
But it will be interesting to see their answers.
