Its based on the common sense that homosexuality is taking the beautiful circle of life, and rearranging it into a straight line.
A line I might remind you, that ends.
It is based on the fact that the Aids virus has not magically disappeared, but rather has sored to epidemic proportions throughout the World. Catholic Charities and Catholic Worldwide Childrens Ministries goes into some of the most horrid of areas and watches the daily pain
and suffering of the millions of aids patients who simply lie there until they die the most
unbelievably horrible death you can imagine;
these are not just news stories for them, but the bleak reality of the thing. I can certainly understand where they would feel as if they
were doing humanity a huge dis-service if they were to keep silent or advocate such a deathstyle - uh, lifestyle. No, no, I think deathstyle is far more accurate a term.
If a House of God won't stand up and warn
the people of a wrong-doing, who will? If they were to be silent and not care at all in
the face of death staring them in the eye day after day, what kind of "House of God" would they be? At very least, its their duty.
I respect them for drawing a line in the sand, and instead of promoting such a thing so that they can get more people in the Churches filling up the collection plates, they instead stand up for whats right and decent and will promote health rather than death.

The acceptance of homosexuals by the Catholic Church and the rejection of sin are both based on the Bible.
Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.
The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.
The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."
Here is the text of the document, On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (1986): http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_df86ho.htm
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2357-2359: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.htm#2357
With love in Christ.

Its based on both divine law and natural law. And, we do not reject homosexuals but we recognize that homosexual sex is a sin, just like we do not reject alcoholics but we recognize that drunkeness is a sin.
A quote from the Catechism Of The Catholic Church:
CCC 2357 - Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved (; cf. Persona Humana 8).
The Church bases this teaching on Scripture, in part because homosexual activity is clearly condemned whenever mentioned. For example, God commanded the Israelites, "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination" (Lev. 18:22) and then instituted the death penalty for disobeying this commandment:
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them" (Lev. 20:13).

I am a Christian, but, not apart of the Catholic faith- I will answer this the best I can so I do not offend anyone, however, I cannot change the Word of God.
First of all, homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God. I cannot deny that, so we will start with what God says which is who we need to look too. Romans 1 explains what I am talking about.
Now, if the Catholic church is rejecting people because they are gay, then that is wrong. Jesus dined with sinners, and loved sinners, or none of us would be able to be saved at all, because we all sin and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus died for ALL sinners, and gave all of us a chance to accept Him as Savior. However, if the Catholic Church is saying that homosexuality is a sin, that is not wrong. To me a true Christian church is a hospital for sinners, where they can come and see the love of God, and allow Christ to change their hearts. Jesus nevere rejected anyone-it is us who reject Him.

If they base their stand on the Bible, they never say it. They just call homomsexuality an abomination and leave it at that.
The Church is really strange. If a pedophile priest is exposed, they just quietly move him to another diocese where no one knows what he did. But if a priest gets married, which the Bible does NOT condemn, they kick him out of the priesthood.

= bible old testament... God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah didn't He? those people were sodomites which angered GOD. He sent angels to prophet lot and the people propositioned them because they came in the image of handsome men.
= their strict rejection of homosexuality is also biblical in that God has not wavered in His anger with them, nor has He sent another prophet to us with the message that homosexuality is no longer something that he dislikes and Will punish us for.

It's based on ignorance and hatred, so, the Bible.
Christians pick and choose what to believe, anyway. There's something anti-gay in the Old Testament, yet the New Testament has a different philosophy, depending on how one interprets it.
I don't care what the Bible says about it, I'm not going to be anti-gay.
