I speak from a religious perspective, that it is wrong. No one has the right to take his life or any one else's except God.
The person is suffering by God's will, and God will end his suffering in due time.
If people knew that suffering expeciates us from our sins, will they not be patient then?

I think a form of euthanaism is acceptable. If a person has been chronically ill with no hope of getting better and decides that they no longer want medical intervention, their rights should be respected.
Now I am much against assisted euthanasia because it is too close to being responsible in taking someone else's life. But I can understand if a person does it.

God is the only one that can give life, so He is the only one with the authority to take a life. I can understand when you see a love one dying of terminal cancer or whatever suffering , you would want them not to be suffering. However, if is still murder. Humans were made in the image of God, and we have souls and God has a plan for each of us. I don't understand why He allows some to suffer before they die, and others to die with little pain, however I do know this. If euthanasia was legalized, someone could take the life of another, and call it choice. Just like abortion has become. If someone decides they just are so depressed they don't want to live anymore, that would be ok too. God is God and one day we will know why He does things the way He does, but in the meantime- we cannot take that life in our hands, and take a life just because it seems that they are suffering. Abortion is just euthanasia and the beginning of life. Both are wrong. Before I get nasty comments , I never said I would like to suffer, or see a loved one suffer- my dad suffered before he passed away, so I know what it is to see a love one in pain.
A matter of fact- I suffer with daily pain for almost 40 years, from a chronic illness- there are days that I cannot stand the pain, However even if euthanasia was legalized I would never ask for someone to assist in my suicide, just because of the pain- God is my rock and my refuge, and His grace is sufficient for me.

This is a tough question because of the potential of abuse. However, many things in life do have that potential and we do find ways to make them work. Thus, I think it is something we should support. Each of us has the right to make choices, especially personal ones, during our life. This is one of those personal choices. If we make our intentions know in advance, then, yes, I agree we should have assistance in ending our life. If a person is hopelessly suffering with no chance of recovery then the family should be allowed to make the decision. There is no reason at all to allow a terminally ill person lay in bed suffering unbelievable pain with they body functions completely out of control suffering until the body shuts down. If someone were to treat their pet that way they would probably be subjected to criminal charges.

I absolutely believe in it for terminal patients. I believe people should have the right to die with dignity in a situation of their choosing, and I see no reason to force someone to live out their final days in agony if they do not want to.
Non-terminal patients is much more problematic, because many of them are suffering from depression if they want to kill themselves, and I'd have huge problems with assisting in the death of someone who ultimately wants to die because of a chemical imbalance that can be treated. I guess I see death as a last resort, something you only consider after all other options have been ruled out. If someone was non-terminal but in excruciating pain all the time with no chance of treatment, I'd support their right to die. But that scenario doesn't realistically happen often.

I think that it is extremely difficult to draw a legal line that will defend everyone. I definitley would not want to lie in a hospital bed and suffer if there was absolutely no hope of my recovery, and I wouldn't want to prolong the agony of death for a loved one either. But if it is legalized, then you will get people being murdered in hospitals. I'm sure it happens now, but how bad would it be if that were legalized?

Have you ever watched somebody die slowly and horribly from a disease like cancer, when there is simply no hope of them ever getting better and no chance of a future that is not filled with pain and suffering 24 hours a day for the rest of their life? Perhaps if you had, you would change your mind.

I am against euthanasia.
At one time, I thought it was ok. Once I read the Bible, and developed a deeper respect for all life, I know now it is not right, it is a form of "killing" and I believe against our 6th commandment give to us by God.
There are reasons why things are the way they are, and alot of times it is beyond man's comprehension - the reason God does the things He does.
God Bless

If it is right to end the suffering of animals by putting them down, then how can we say it is not good enough to let those who are suffering let go of this life? If I were dying of some horrible, incurable disease and was in constant, unbearable pain, I think God would not hold it against me or anyone else to end my suffering in a painless humane way.

We do not have the ability to give life thus, we have no right to take life. When God is rady for them to be put out of their misery, He will relieve them. until then, we have to try our best to make them confortable and feel loved.
If we were to start support euthiniasia, then we would also have to support those who kill the merci killers in retaliation if they don't agree with their actions. That doesn't make sense. Does it?
Don't think that it isn't the same thing because it is.

I think those that are suffering and who have both verbally told family members and signed a release should be allowed to be released from this life, in a quick and painless way.
