You can do back extensions to strengthen your back muscles to protect and cushion your bones.

Check out:

You can do it lying on the floor as well.
Hope this helps.

You need to be more specific.

Why do you have back pain? Have you had an injury? Do you have some other condition which causes back pain?

If you have had an injury, the possibility of your back pain going away is slim. I have chronic back pain to due injuries from work (as an EMT, I do a lot of heavy lifting). I don't take painkillers unless the pain is very bad and even then, I don't take narcotics.

For me, light exercise helps a lot. Believe it or not but when it comes to back pain, the longer you stay immobile, the worse the pain gets. Swimming works for me as it stretches those muscles but the water bears my weight.

Try some simple stretching exercises or swim. Remember to stop if you start feeling pain. I won't recommend any herbal treatments as I don't believe in them. Also, ice can help the pain. Place an ice pack on your back where it hurts for no more than 20 minutes at a time. Make sure there is a towel or something between the ice pack and your skin.

See if that helps. If you pain does not alleviate, then you should see your doctor. Be advised that once you injure your back, it will never be 100%. You will probably always have some level of pain, from a slight ache to severe pain.

You don't give yourself much chance of losing the pain if you won't consider going to the doctor or pills. Get a massage its temporary but even a chiropractor is temporary relieve just for a higher amount of money.

exercise plain and simple. learn stretching exercises. you don't need to do anything strenuous. most westerners have adapted very poor and lazy sitting habits that are really bad for you.

try sitting in a 1/2 lotus or full lotus (with your legs up and crossed) and keep your back away from leaning against the back of the chair. when you have your back aligned right you can feel the difference right away. chairs are adapted from thrones and are not good for you back no matter how many supports are in it and how much it costs. a better way to sit is in an ergonomic chair that you kneel on or if its a hard back chair rest your chest against the back.

here is information on how to cross your legs in a full lotus a half lotus has one foot under and one foot on top -- its easier for a lot of people --

See a chiropractor. They're great for helping to realign the spine and get you moving again.

Do some gentle exercise as well. Walking and swimming are both good for backs. Don't do breaststroke if you have lower back pain though - you'll have to do front crawl.

If you are overweight losing pounds will help your back.
use good posture,(don't slouch in you chair) and either join a gym or look up back strenghtening excersices and start working on your back muscles and also abs.
It only makes sense that a strong muscular back will hold your spine up better and alleviate pain that is caused by deterioration and weakness.
educate yourself on lifting, bending and twisting motions that can put your back out of whack in one single move.
good luck.It has really worked for me.
