Good question.

Despite the fact that there is a multitude of names and interpretations for the ONE Divine Source/Creator, many people believe in the ONE God concept because they understand that the various names/interpretations are based on cultural and regional differences.

Personally, I believe in ONE Divine Source; ONE CREATOR....whatever name you chose to call HIM/HER. The reason I believe is because I have felt HIS/HER presense in a sweatlodge, in a Wiccan circle, in a cedar forest, at the edge of one of our glorious Great Lakes, in the hospital room as I first lay eyes on my newborn son, in the hospital room when my grandmother's spirit crossed over, and in my practice of divination. To feel the presense of the ONE Divine Source/Creator/Great Spirit takes an open mind, an open heart and faith. This is my Truth.

"Non-believers" are people who have not yet personally felt the ONE's presence in their lives. To attempt to provide "proof" to these people seems futile. One can only provide opportunities which will allow them to (hopefully) experience the ONE Divine Source. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't force it to drink."

Well either all of creation is the invention of one mastermind, or a committee of superbeings.

Mankind though has only recieved revelation to substantiate the belief in a monotheistic God, not many. That is why the 3 of the largest religions follow the SAME God.

Because He took the time to TELL US about Himself? The evidence is in Nature, the Stars, the human Heart, and the Written Word. What more do you need?

People talk about Christian arrogance, but what about the arrogance of people who think they're smarter than all the philosophers who have ever lived?

"We" don't.

At least some of us don't accept the god that is the paradigm of the judeo/christian/muslim faiths. You know, the omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, loving dude. Such a god would never have created ambiguous scriptures, revealed them only to itinerant goat herders, put them into obscure languages, left town after the revelation with any hope that people would agree on the validity or meaning of the source documents, or made the faith-ignorance connection that such religions require of their adherents.

I'm guessing by the why do "we" believe in one God, that you put yourself in the "one God" category. Why do YOU believe in one God?

That's actually a new question. I know that many here ask how God is different than other gods. I guess I'd have to say that for every myth, there is a kernel of truth. I've noticed that nobody ever asks about "gods" rather than "baals" or "allahs" or "Jupiters" or "Zeus's" or Hindu "gods" or "Dagons" or whatever -- it is always other "gods". I'm guessing that at the heart of all of those myths is "God" as the kernel of truth. In Isaiah 58, God asks the Jews, who have built themselves idols how they can possibly worship a piece of wood that they've just carved as being the answer to all of their problems.

Many of the "gods" of other religions make it rain or bring about sun, or are gods of fertility, or music, or some other part of creation -- God covers all of the territory.

I notice that other gods fight amongst themselves and are glorified people -- meaning they are exactly like us, but can do magical/neat things we can't do. But there's just a lot of chaos in the stories. God said, "Come, let us reason together." He's not against logic and order. Other "gods" want us to worship them based on their power, God wants us to worship Him based on His love for us by dying on the cross as a human for our sin, and making it possible for us to come back to Him -- by His own initiation and effort. He wants us to have faith, but not worship graven images. He offers proof through transformed lives. I've both SEEN transformed lives, and become one myself.

That's what makes God "different" by why a God to begin with? I'd say that I believe in Intelligent design based on the miraculousness of how the human body and solar system work. Someone had to set that up. People believe we are the "image of God" because we have souls, thoughts, and emotions. We do not live just by instinct. I'm not sure science has an answer for those things.

If there were MORE than one God over different aspects of nature, then there would not be one over everything, and I tend to agree with the person who said there could be only one "supreme' Gpd/

He says in His word, the Bible (by the way, notice how handbooks which explain how things work from beginning to end are called "bibles" the "bible" of science, or medicine, or how to put an engine together -- they are not called Qarans or Homer's book of gods or whatever. I see that in the same light as others use the word "god". People have an inate sense that there is a God). Anyway, He says, "Hear O Israel, the Lord is One Lord" (Hebrews 6:4). Now that "one" is the same word as men and woman becoming one flesh (Genesis 2:24) so it is not just one being -- but together they are one GOD, with a singleness of purpose, just as two individual "beings" become one in the flesh in marriage. Jesus said, "I and the Father are One" in John 10. So, though I see more than one Being -- I see only ONE God.

Because thats all there is or can be. Have you read in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 43 verse 10, It says, I know of no other God besides me. Today we serve his son Jesus Christ, He came and died on a cross for our sins, the Bible says we are all sinners, in need of a Saviour, Christ was a perfect man, the only one, he gave his life and spilled his blood at Calvery to save us. He died that we might Live. Hell was made for the devil and his band of demons but if we don't except Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we will wind up right with him in a lake of fire. We still have time to make a choice, God gives us freewill but we never know when our time on earth is over. If you would like to know how to be saved and believe in Jesus I will give you a simple prayer that you can say that will lead you to a wonderful relationship with Jesus Christ. Of course you have to believe and have faith that the bible is true, and that Jesus is who he says he is, just say, Dear Jesus, I just ask you right now to come into my life and save me, I admit and confess that I am a sinner. I believe that you came and died on a cross for my sins, and that you rose from the grave as a perfect sacrifice to cover the sins of all mankind. I do believe you are the Son of God and I ask you to make me one of your children in the Kingdom of Heaven, and be my Lord and Saviour, in Jesus Name Amen, If you Prayed this Prayer with a sincere heart you are now saved, You should feel a burden being lifted off your heart and the days will seem brighter as Christ begins a work in you, find a church, and start reading your Bible, may God Bless YOU!!! If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Mercy and Grace have been applied!!!

Hey, I am a Muslim.

I have a lecture for everyone who wants proof of Almighty God. It is by the brilliant Muslim scholar, Dr. Zakir Naik. He proves Almighty God’s existence by using some of the many scientific verses in the Qur’an. Scientists are recently discovering these facts, but they were already in the Qur’an 1400 years ago! Please listen to the lecture. It is worth your time.

Here is a lecture by a Muslim scholar. He talks about the trinity. The topic of whether Almighty God has a begotten son is also brought up. He also talks about if Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) is Almighty God. I'm not sure of the scholar's name, but it is very interesting. Please watch.

I believe there is only one God because it says in the bible.
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
