It's probably because he's used to the inside and not very curious of the outside.I sometimes let my cat come out but he just sits by the doorway and doesn't go out.If I carry him out, then he'll run away with all his might.I think he'll go out when he wants to.Until then, just keep him comfortable; inside. :)

My cats go outside, but don't leave the deck, they sun and play and catch bugs without their paws ever touching grass! It's great that your cat is frightened, do not take him outside anymore to keep that healthy fear. He'll live longer and pest free. For car rides to the vets, place him in a small carrier, drape a dark towel over it so he can't see what's happening. He'll be less traumatized that way. Good luck!

If he is afraid to go outside...don't force him to do it. It is much safer for your cat to be indoors anyway..there are way too many things that can happen to a cat outside. Feel lucky that he does not want to go out there.

I am sorry for your loss! It is normal to be sad and not want to have to deal with anything! You have to do it! The longer you wait the worse it will be! Call a friend to come over and take you out to the mall or go to eat somewhere! Have them pick you up at your house and tell them that they cannot let you back out! Good Luck

yes my brothers cat is just like this too - taking her to the vet once a year is a tramatic experience. if you want her to not be as scared, i would suggest picking her up and holding her with the front door open but NOT go outside... then let her sit with the door open and see what she does. little by little...

Your cat knows better than you. Cats should never be allowed to go outside. It is too dangerous. There a myriad of predators, diseases, and the threat of being hit by cars. Leave him inside where he wants to be....smart kitty.
