He is wearing the Combat Action Badge, which is strange since I would have thought he earned a Combat Infantry Badge when he was younger, and dont know what scrape he got into (probably as division commander in the initial invasion) to earn the CAB. And no the CAB is **NOT** for 'everyone in the theater' it is only for those who were in some form of direct combat.

The highest ribbon is for the DoD Distinguished Service Medal. I think right next to that but hidden is the Distinguished Service Cross. Also visible near the top are the Distinguised Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit (all with oak leaves). What matters most tho is his Bronze Star with 'V' for personal valor.

After that it seems to run the gambit of all the Army medals and their DOD counterparts (When assigned to an ARMY unit you get Army medals... if you get assigned to a joint forces headquarters or staff you care DoD medals)

You can see his Master Parachutist badge, Air Assault wings on his left pocket, and I think those are?Polish? jump wings over his right pocket. Also eagle is his regimental affiliation, probably one of the 101st Airborne Division units.

You will never get a complete answer with this picture as 50% of the ribbons are covered up.

With regards ribbons in the military not all US ribbons denote a medal, some denote training exercises or training missions.
