Great question. I definitely consider myself one although I think people's definition of it differ. This bit from Wiki defines it to me:
"foodies differ from gourmets ...foodies are amateurs who simply love food for consumption, study, preparation, and news."
I also like this site's definition as "someone who has an ardent or refined interest in food."
Nothing snobbish about it because you don't have to be wealthy to be a foodie.

According to those definitions above, I'm pretty sure I'm a foodie. I love cooking, love food, love research, love the history and origins, trends, experimenting with different combinations, learning. It's all part of the package I guess, it's my life, and it used to be my career. But I still have the passion.

there arelots of foodies out there..but a true foodies..knows about his ingredients...where they come from etc...and the origin of the dish their cooking..the region etc and they must love what their cooking...thats why Rocco di Spirito is just a chef and Mario Batali...is a chef and a foodie!!

Me too. I have a collection of over 500 cookery books, plus cookery magazines and loads of recipes collected from the www. I belong to my university's intranet foodie group. Many of my friends have suggested I should open a restaurant. I also love making preserves and liqueurs and give these as gifts.
