There's one I have "If You Can't Stand The Heat" (forget the author, but it's on amazon.com). Anthony Bourdain's first book the one that was on the bestseller list is my favorite. It's all so true! And "Becoming a Chef" has a bunch of stories about how chefs got their start and schooling. I think I got them all from amazon. If you want a sociological historical view on cooking, "Perfection Salad" is also a very good book. Good luck!

I think Gordon Ramsey's "Roasting in Hells Kitchen" is an awesom book. It's about all he went through growing up in the business. If you're a fan of his you will LOVE this book.

Any of the Nero Wolf series by Rex Stout are darned good mysteries, and you'll learn something about cooking in each one.
