You may wish to read a really good book on the subject, Healthy Aging by Andrew Weil, MD.... he's indeed the real deal, not some jerk with wild a-S -S ideas. By changing one thing, my breakfast, I lowered by cholesterol 30 points.... in 6 weeks.....My doc thought that was Impressive...I don;t have to take those chol. drugs any more. Add one baby aspirin to your diet, and some fish oil as well... anything that can reduce your chol that much is such a short time is for sure helpful. Add to your diet, organic spinach, beets.... in other words things that are colorful... red peppers, carrots, olives, blue berries, peaches, melons, artichokes, skip the potatoes, and things that are white, and heavily processed.... white flower, Crisco, lard. Use butter, and on your salad, olive oil. Whole grain breads, and refrain from burning meat on the grill, in fact don't ever brown meat. If you are going to use it in a stew or spaghetti sauce, put it in the tomatoes, and cook it that way.... it is called caramelizing, and you really don't want to do that to food.
(Breakfast = Scottish oats, brown sugar (not very much ) organic ground flax seed, and blue berries + non fat milk)...
He as well discusses other things you ought to omit from your diet, and you can get his newsletter.... (Andrew Weil.com ignore the vitamin hype.... and should you wish to order them from him, it goes into a foundation....
He as well has another book called something like " The Anti-Oxidant Diet. Harvard trained, about now 65, so he is for sure no dummy.
Hope this helps??
