We unlike the religious allow our children to formulate their own thoughts because we believe they are intelligent enough to make their own decisions.

I have told my children that there are many different beliefs about gods. I have informed my children about the various holy books that are available in my personal library for them to look at if they are interested.

I have answered their questions about gods, and major religious characters when asked. So far, they haven't asked me about Jesus, or any other person in the bible, and they haven't asked to borrow the bible or the quran or any other religious book. I think their interests lie in a different direction at this moment.

I would do my best to instill the fact that they have a choice to do WHATEVER they want...either to become Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Atheist, or whatever...but to do it knowing that no matter what, you will still be the same person, and don't join in because of the wrong reasons (i.e., if you don't believe in what that particular group believes, you'll go to eternal damnation...) So...I would do that. I'll teach them spirituality of course, morals (yes you CAN be moral and not be Christian *gasp*) and to live up to the best that you can be...and then they can make a choice once they've matured past the age of accepting everything their parents tell them....so I would do that, but so far, no kids and hopefully no kids until at least five years...

I am not an atheist nor do I believe in god. I have a good mind and a fine education. I know that BOTH groups are wasting a lot of their lives worrying about foolishness.

I do think a child should be taught the basics about the various religions so that they are mentally armed against the fantasies and will not be sucked into one of them..

I haven't said anything about this subject to my child because the question has never come up. If my child does ask I would hand them the bible and tell them to read it. I want my child to make their own thought on religion and things of that nature. I believe the child will find the religion that suits them best and to let them make that choice on their own. But, as a parent it is my job to help my child look at all aspects of every religion and have them well learned on the subject and not to cast judgment before they can find it on their own.

I have taken the time to teach my daughter about many different faiths and taken her to many different churches. I have also bought her several Bibles. The decision to be Buddhist was mine- her faith is her decision to make. I do not believe in shoving my beliefs on others and feel there would be a lot more tolerance if children were taught about all religions, not just the ones their parents happen to belong to.

Nothing. Partly because I have no kids. And, of course, partly because I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in Jesus. The Bible is an entertaining piece of literature, though, in parts. I'd recommend it the same way, and for the same reasons, that I'd recommend Shakespeare.

I got no children but here's something to think about...

Why would an ex-hindu Atheist living in India tell their children about bible?

That the bible is a story book and a tradition for some people, like Santa Claus. If someone would give me proof of anything else, I would share that with them.

If I had any children I would not tell them anything until I considered them old enough to understand.

Then I would try to make sure that they were introduced to all the possible religions, and also atheism, and let them know that they are to make their own choice in life.

An atheist
