Dunn's River Falls is not walking distance from the port. You need to take a tour or Taxi or bus to get there. Since Jamaica is not the safest place to take a freelance taxi, I suggest that you just book a ship's tour, or go online and book a tour company. But stay away from independent taxis in Jamaica. You never know what you get. There are always stories of people getting ripped off.
We did Dunn's River on one cruise and the river raft on another and both are great. So do one or the other.

Trust me, you definitely want to do the excursion through the cruiseline. It's not close enough to walk to from the ship, it's a few miles away. I went on a tour when I did it so I can't tell you exactly how far it is. Our tour we took was great, we did a botanical garden tour (which I didn't think I'd really like but was great), a museum tour (which was only a 1 room building), and a little shopping along with the Falls. The locals get a little aggressive as far as when our bus would stop, they would run up to the windows and try to get you to buy things from them and didn't want to hear you say no. We had a good tour guide who handled them very well though. You'll love the falls, its beautiful. Take a waterproof camera with you, you'll have some awesome pictures...

Negotiate and walk away negotiate and walk away and additionally you would be bowled over through fact the fees pass down or the driving force is basically too lazy to furnish a very good holiday besides. that's a short force and there are lockers and nutrition and beverages there. that's certainly worth it and additionally you do not even choose a handbook in case you may hear to the handbook earlier than you together with his team you may persist with in the back of a techniques. however the locals c;ould use the money so employed a handbook to stand up the falls in case you may negotioate a competent value. undergo in recommendations those human beings drink fum like pepsi pass to the food market to even with the shown fact that it and save seventy 5 % off the vacationer shopes= comparable bottle

It's so easy to get there. Just be sure to pre-negotiate with the taxi at the pier before you get in. It's easy to get a taxi back too. Just don't wander off ... it's a jungle in Jamaica. Lots of crime. I got sick at the Falls and had to take a taxi back to the boat early. The taxi man was very nice about it.

I have always taken the ship tours since you are guaranteed that the ship will not leave without you on your return.
I was there but took the steps from the top down to the beach.

That would depend greatly on what port you will be arriving at.
Many ships port at MoBay -- it is nearly a 2 hour drive from there
