I run 2-3 times a week, 2-3 miles each time somtimes more. This summer I have competed in two races. One was an 8k and I finished in 2052 out of 9033 runners. The second was a 5k and I finished 29 out of 170 runners. Someone asked me the other day if I was a runner. What do you think?

I'd say you're a runner when running is a regular part of your life. I'm to the point where if a do not run on a given day, unless it's already deemed "my day off," the day just isn't right. It's almost a necessity. It gets my day on track, keeps me motivated, and makes me feel so much better. Maybe you don't have to love running to be a runner. Actually, after the initial year or two of xc running, I didn't like it all that much. Now I love it. Now I consider myself a runner.

When you need it and you love it and you do it regularly, no matter how fast, you are a runner.

The late Jim Fixx defined running as an activity going forward wherein both feet are off the ground at some point in the process and repeatedly.

So unless you are speedwalking where one foot is ALWAYS in contact with the ground, the you are a runner.

I'd recommend you get in touch with a running club or running store where they have groups that train together. You may have potential you haven't tapped yet. Good Luck
