Are mutts essentially hassel-free when it comes to particular foods and yearly vaccinations?
I'm looking for a dog that is easy to manage and I've heard mutts are easier to care for than breed dogs. Is this true?

That's not true at all. All dogs are the same, no matter what breed they are. Mutts need yearly vaccinations just like purebred dogs. They also need to eat a few times a day.
If you want an "easy to manage" dog, you aren't going to find one. Dogs need a lot of attention and can be very expensive considering all the shots they need (starting at 6 weeks of age they get 3 sets of shots and deworming).

the closest you are going to get to hassel free is adopting an adult dog.. puppies need shots more often than adults.. if you adopt one from a shelter an adult should be set for awhile.. Plan on about $100 a year or less.. County dog licenses are a yearly expense as well.. and you may want to consider pet insurance.. which will help if an emergency comes up.. (emergency vet visits can be VERY expensive.. ) These are living creatures, and accidents DO happen..anything from jumping off a couch, to swallowing something their body cannot tolerate .. as said in another answer however, mutts have a less likely chance to have some of the purebred ailments such as.. each breed has different problems.. eyes, hip displaysia, bloat.. etc. etc.. etc.. but it is no guarentee that they won't have them either..

No, that is entirely false. Vaccinations are meant the reduce the spread of disease and depending on which area some are manditory. Rabies vaccines and heartworm testing are required annually in all areas of the US. In some places in Europe it is required to get your dog micro-chipped. Mutts tend to have more health problems due to genetic problems. For example a dog with a strong muscular structure and weak bone structure will be more prone to hip and joint problems. If you are concerned about large vet costs I would strongly urge you to get pet insurance. Some are only $100 a year and will cover all vetereinary costs including vaccinations, spay and neutering, medications, and any other services.

No it is NOT true. Mutts can have just as many health issues as a purebred.They can get illnesses such as distemper/parvo, they can have cancers, skin issues, hip/elbow dysplasia, deafness, eye issues, etc just as readily as purebreds. Also mix or purebred the vaccination scheduale is the same and they both need good quality foods. The upkeep is the same regardless of breed/mix.
Also dogs do NOT need yearly vaccinations..this is no longer the recommended protocol per AAHA/AVMA and ALL 27 vet schools.

no, all dogs need shots. You need a rabies shot for your dog every 3 years for sure.
Mutts (and all dogs really) are a gamble when it comes to health. Just go to the pound and the shelter workers will help you pick one out. I guarantee your dog WILL get sick sometime and that will result in a trip to the vet. So keep emergency money in the bank for your dog. You will need it!
Also, you can feed your dog whatever dog food you want as long as it's not table scraps. Dogs that are fed table scraps sometimes wind up with diabetes. I have a dog with diabetes. I picked her up off the street. She was pretty sick and so I took her to the vet and the vet found she had diabetes. I decided to keep her but I have to give her insulin shots and feed her an expensive special diet. I'm guessing her last owners fed her a bad diet and gave her diabetes then dumped her when she got sick. So please feed your dog DOG FOOD not people food.

ALL dogs need vaccinations, and all dogs should be fed decent food.
Don't think that just because it's a mutt that its care will be easier.

No, mutts are still dogs. There's no such thing as a hassle-free dog. If you don't have the time, money or effort to invest in having a dog, I'd strongly reconsider getting one.

All dogs need proper medical care. The same medical care. Would you give the child of two different nationality parents less health care? You seem very mixed up.
