I have two sibling kittens that are about two months old. One is male and the other is female. I have a couple of problems with them.

The male, who is larger, is always jumping on and really biting the smaller female. Sometimes its even to the point where she yelps or cries... what is that? is it normal?

The male has this new problem with biting us. If I put my finger near him he will lick it uncontrollably, but lately also, he will just randomly bite. Is it normal? Can I stop it?

The kittens both kick litter EVERYWHERE! it is such a mess and it's drivng me nuts.

That's all I can think of for now...

Kittens are really playful and will play attack and play bite. If it's not playing, there will be fur and blood flying. hen cats are serious, you know.

As for the litter problem, we've done a bunch of things that have worked, and you can try all or none if you wish:

Get a larger litter pan, or one with higher sides.
Put less litter in the pan -- they only need about an inch to an inch and a half.
Try a litter box with a dome lid.
Put a throw rug underneath the pan and shake it out outside every few days.

It's normal, all of it. The male kitten is establishing dominance over the female kitten through play, and sometimes it hurts. As long as he doesn't break the skin and the female starts bleeding, then you're okay.

Putting your finger up to the kitten probably makes him think of his mother's nipples which is why he starts licking it and "bites" which is probably just him thinking he can suckle on it. My advice to you would be to buy a book on kitten behavior, like a Dummies book or something because those are great informational books that won't have you bored. It's important to understand cat behavior if you plan on owning one, nevertheless two. Too many people take their pets to the SPCA simply because they don't understand them.

As for the litter box problem, buy a hooded litter box with a flap. It greatly helps out this problem alot. When they kick the litter around its because they are burying their treasure or trying to find a good place. The kittens may be shy in entering the litter box but with my cat, when he was an older kitten and too big for the little litter box, I bought a hooded one because I was tired of sweeping litter. He was very shy of entering so I just put him in there myself, and of course he ran out, but he now knew that the litter was there. Use the same litter you've been using when you change to a different litter box so the kittens will know something familiar about it. Once they know the litter is in there, they will most likely enter it once a bad bathroom urge comes along, so don't worry.

If you have other problems with the kittens that you want stopped, use a spray bottle and spray them when you catch them in the act, not afterwards, and not beforehand. This is important if you want them to stop, because after the deed is done if you punish them, they won't understand why.

One last thing, don't let your cats establish dominance over you! Teach them from the begining that you are the dominant one. All you need to do, is when you catch them staring at you, stare back. They do this to establish dominance. It's a staring game--whoever looks away first is the loser, aka not dominant. You must make sure to do this everytime, because the one time you don't think about it and look away, they win the game!

The male is starting to "feel his hormones". It is too early to have him neutered, but that will most likely solve most of his aggressive tendencies. In the meantime I'd try to give her as much time away from him as possible when you are not there to supervise them.

He may be checking out your finger to see if it gives milk. He'll grow out of that if that is what it is. Or he may just be playing and does not realize how rough he is (which may be the case when he hurts the female, too) To correct him, tell him "No" calmly but firmly and tap him-very lightly-on the nose. Also, make sure he has toys to play with to use up some of his energy. Remember, he is just a child and will calm down a lot as he gets older-especially once he is neutered.

As for scattering litter, that will probably get better as they get older. They are just trying to do a good job! Try a covered litter box or one with high sides.

Hope this helps.

Oh I hear ya. The brother is just an *** to put it lightly towards his sister. You can curb his behavior of biting by spraying him, it didn't work too well for us when our cat did that but that's pretty much the only answer your going to get about that anyway. We ended up slapping him (not too hard but enough to let him know you mean business) and telling him "no, insert name here". It really helps that later on when you know he's doing something bad you can say his name in that tone and he'll stop.

As for the litter, our cat REALLY does that too, it gets EVERYWHERE. Even on top of the toilet, and litterally in every nook and crannie in our bathroom, just disgusting. So far all we did was buy one of those enclosed litter boxes with a door so it helps him from not only flinging it everywhere, he has to lift his paws to get out so the litter on top of them falls off sooner.

So far with doing all this he's getting A LOT better about his problems. Hope it works for you too.

Normal kitten play- no big deal- but when he bites you, a stern no and place him on the floor away from you- he'll get the message after a while. New litter box- you need one that is enclosed with a lid- you'll have a lot less mess!! good luck with your kittens, they sound charming!!!

they might just be playing with each other... they are young so they have all the energy in the world...lol.. but...when he jumps on her just gently smack him off her, or a tap on the nose... cats hate it when their nose is being tapped. about the biting you, i think it will go away, just as long as hes not biting you really hard. yea, the cat litter is such a pain to deal with. i feel ur pain. lol.

the biting stuff is normal, buy an enclosed litter box, that should help with the mess.

He sounds really aggressive, I would have him nutered as soon he turns 4- 6 months this might help him cut down on the biting.

Painful it may be but separate them as soon as possible! The male kitten is apparently going crazy!
