We adopted him last night, he's a beautiful healthy cat, very sweet and affectionate....but he meows constantly, I'm talking about all hours of the day, when we try to sleep etc....Any thoughts on what's going on in his cat head?

Ya if you just got him this is completely normal. He is kinda weirded out right now most likely. Just pet him and try to keep all the doors open throughout the house not to outside of course but just so he doesn't feel locked in anywhere. he will eventually mellow out but of course he will still always meow a bit.

Inside cat head:

Look at those people -- meow, who are you? Look at this place -- meow, where am I? Those people might be sleeping -- meow, are they awake? Oh, the fresh air looks tempting -- meow, can I go out? I'm out of food -- meow, can I have more?

Anyways...sounds like your cat will always be pretty vocal. We recently adopted a little thing that meowed constantly. It's been a month and a half now, and she's definitely toned it down a bit. There's hope for you. No need to freak out and see the vet. That's like a parent bringing its kid to the doctor when it sneezes -- silly.

He's in a new home, he's 'lost', he doesn't know what's going on, he is around strangers. One night isn't going to put him at ease, so of course he's loud.

Spend time with him, don't get upset or yell, keep the TV at a lower volume, and make sure he knows where the food and water is, and the litter box.

If you can try playing with him, that'd help. And get down on the floor for part of it, they get far more comfortable if you're not standing 8 stories tall above them. Try to make physical contact if the cat is ok with that. If he pulls back, then just keep talking to him or showing that you're not dangerous.

Best guess is that he thinks he's lost and wants to go home. He is clueless that he's been given away from his original family.

I agree with everyone. He is just getting used to his new surroundings. If he was in a situation before where there were other cats, he could be looking for them... or he could be looking for you, if he's in a different room at night. But most likely, he's just a bit anxious, or curious. I think he'll be ok.

By the way, it's a wonderful thing to adopt an adult cat. Congratulations!

Awww..My Wife and I have 3 cats. One is just like than he is a Siamese and He CONSTANTLY vocalizes and meows. It's just his personality. Your Cat is probably similar. some of them are just naturally mouthy like some people are. You will get used to it. I did eventually.....lol

Cats meow when they are hungry, thirsty, bored or want to go outside. Some cats meow when they want you to play with them. I think your cat is meowing because it doesn't know that this is home. He wanted to go home.

well just let him get used to the surroundings. then if nothing changes after a month or so then i would take him to a vet and adk them if its anything serious, but sometimes there are cats that just meow like that by nature.

He is in a new place and doesn't understand why. Eventually, with love and lots of affection, it should subside. It may take several days, or even weeks. If he has been an outdoor cat, you may be in for an even longer wait.

Kitty is under stress and may be afraid of the unfamiliar surroundings. Once the cat is reassured that it is safe, this behavior should diminish. make sure the cat is not sick.
