I like bricks or glass blocks and boards, or if you're near an IKEA get some from the Billy collection.

Edit: Also check for used bookcases or boards at craigslist.org and freecycle.org

I got some particle board bookcases at Walmart that were very reasonable. It is nothing fancy but they have held up pretty well and were a breeze setting up. Take a peek in your local paper to see if any furniture stores are going out of business in your area. You can always get some great deals in that situation as well. Good Luck!

Walmart has inexpensive, nice looking bookcases, in store or buy online.
