There have been African popes, but they were probably racially Semitic, not black. However, since most of the Catholic world is white, it makes sense that most popes have been caucasian too. However, when JPII died a few years back, Cardinal Arinze (a black man) was a frontrunner in the College of Cardinals.

Since Catholicism isn't the norm in Africa, it has been kind of difficult to find a qualified Latin speaking candidate. When the last Pope was appointed, an African and South American were considered. Apparently, they were on the young/inexperienced so maybe next time.

I can tell you in one word, No there hasn't been a black pope in the history of the Papacy. Most were Italians with some exceptions. For instance John Paul II was Polish. The current pope Benedict XVI is German.

Do you mean the pope of Rome, or would you consider the Patriarch of Alexandria (also called "Pope")? I bet some of them were brothas.

Not that I'm aware of, but there are some who maintain there was a female Pope ("Pope Joan"), although she is largely regarded as being a myth.
